1000 yard range

I'm sorta sure I know why I'm doing this, not sure if it's going to happen, or if it's even going anywhere. Back in mid September there was a story on Channel 4 (Buffalo for all those who live out of the area) about a guy who wanted to open up a 1000 yard range (in Colden NY), not too far away from where I grew up as a kid. Of course all his neighbors, even those who were shooters themselves, raised holy hell about this being a possibility. I wanted to offer this guy some help back then but life got in the way again. Well life isn't too much less hectic but I decided to do some investigating, locate this guy and write him a letter in hopes that there might be something I, or anyone else can do to aid his cause.

I've been getting back into shooting and shooting related activities, as well as hunting. I like to go shooting with my buddy, my son, and others but there just aren't too many places to really challenge us....and this guys place would fit that bill. Not to mention it's not too far of a drive from where I live.

Proposed shooting range in Colden stirs some concerns

I'm hoping he gets back in touch with me and tells me he's still trying to get this past the local fun police. If it opens up, I'd for sure be a frequent visitor. Anyone else in this part of the state near this guy?

The present location of my 1000 is not great to push to 2000, so im moving it here. With the removal of some trees, I can get 5000 if I ever need it.
Its kinda hard to see in this bad picture. This is about 3/4 of the straight away, theres more to the right.

Very tempting, I'm on the chaut-erie border looking at canada across the lake.

Of course, with what little shooting I've done in the last few years, I would have to start at the 25 yard line and work my way back up to, I dunno, maybe 300?

It's a perishable skill

In the end he might get a 600yd range I've shot 1000yd it took me 10 round to hit the target and another 20 to make it look like a group. Most people don't have the equipment to shoot a 1000yd(scope and mount setup).
Things change drastically past 600yd you could be aiming 20ft above the target with some rounds.

Not saying it wouldn't be cool to have a long range range in New York but it may be impossible to get it done.

Thats the only gun I have at the moment to get that far accurately, a Savage 110 Ba 338 Lapua with a Nightforce 5.5-22x56 NXS scope.
Its expensive as hell to shoot because im not reloading yet but have the equipment to start. Gotta find time.

I have Model 700 in 338LM it awsome more gun them I most likely very need. I think I'm down to $.75 around on reloads and have paid as much a $8.00 around for factory.

A thousand yard Range for me would require some kind of ATV to change targets. OR get the Bulls eye Camera System and only walk back and forth two times. They really are awesome for sighting in. The app that comes with it tells you what to do. I am not an official vendor anymore, but if you are interested in these systems pm me.

Could try calling the Colden town hall and see if they will give you any info. According to the article it was supposed to be presented to the town board. They should have the minutes from the meeting with his info. I’m not far from Colden but don’t think I know anyone there.

I just read this forum. I am from this area too Carlos. I've always wanted to do long range (1000 yrd +). I would enjoy even a 500 yard range if we had one?
