I know that the OP stated under 1k, but if a 1911 addict imo quality trumps quantity. Look at a Dan Wesson, they start around $1300 but well worth it. Spending more than the Dan Wesson starts to become diminishing returns, again imo.

I'm still bummed the general public can't stop in and get a deal on a gun. They are only about 45 minutes from me. If they showed some love for the locals I would probably already have a couple of them.

I'd love a factory tour, would sure go a long ways towards making me a DW convert.

Another solid NY maker (or shall I say former) is Fusion Firearms.

Now in Florida but still making some very nice guns.

Got a new WC on the way, but I'm thinking something like this beauty from Fusion would be nice for 2018.

Last weekend I started putting my latest 1911 together and realized I was missing the magazine release lock, and the grips needed a slot cut in them for the ambi safety. Yesterday I got the magazine release lock and a new set of grips, so I will finish my gun this weekend. I may even get it out to the range on Saturday.

I'm very happy with my Reminton R-1 Carry Commander. Fieldstrips like a classic 1911. Eats everthing I feed it without hiccups.

Thanks 71 , went to lgs and fondled a few DW, he had the CCO, Guardian & Valk in stock; all 9mm though. First impression was that you can "feel" the quality and tightness of the fit n finish. Opened my eyes a bit, Cry once and all that. Need to put mits on the V bob next.

I have noticed the R1 carry has dropped in price large. Some very good R1 deals on GB lately.

Meh. First piece I bought was a 9 , not a fan. The .45's ugly little sister.

Rapid fire functional testing at 10 yards. 155 gr swc, 200 gr swc, 230 fmj and 230 JHP all functoned flawlessly. I am happy. To the range tomorrow for sighting in and general shooting.

Very cool. I have the CZ A1 5 inch a limited run that was built by the Dan Wesson smiths with no mim parts. I think your going to be very happy with that.

I love 1911's. First was an Auto Ordnance which I was very happy with and second was a Colt 70 series. My brother was an armorer in the Marines so he taught me tips & tweaks he used to do for officers pistols. My third was a Dan Coonan 1911 357 mag I found in a small gun shop for $350. Traded that for an AR-180 which I later traded for a beautiful 7.62 fal rifle.
