20 bucks at a yard sale and i fixed it up .. new lock .. new back back panel .. and made it to hold more .. ( 12 )

What happens if there is a fire? Lets say you leave the house an your kids an their friends come over an have a party? Nothing safe about a gun cabinet.
You honestly believe that safe, those safes protect what's inside? Lol...

When the key pad melts away theres a access hole that opens the lock. Have you not looked into gun safes? Its not a new technology

Yeah having your guns in a glass cabinet is a much better option. What could go wrong?

I have the 36 gun model Winchester from Tractor Supply, paid $500 about 6 or so years, no complaints other than the normal for every safe in that advertised capacity is no where near real world capacity. Lol.

From what I've seen, gun safes are safe only to a degree. When working on behalf of 4-5 different insurance companies I had the pleasure of going thru and inspecting peoples homes where gun safes and their contents were subject to and damaged by fire.... House on fire gets heavily doused by cold water. Hours later, or sometimes a day or two later, I show up with Cause & Origin guys from the ins. co., plus fire dept. investigators, and sometimes the police, enter the bldg. to investigate. At some point, maybe a day or three later, the bldg. is "cleared" and the home owner and or contractors are allowed entry. After sitting in the damp environment for a few or more days the gun safe gets opened, often by force, and the guns are rusted. After disassembly, cleaning and oiling they might be safe to shoot, but aesthetically they're shot'n pissed on.
At my last two houses I found and or created hides for my toys and valuables. In time I'll do the same here in my current 1850 built new to me house. I have no plans or desire to spend $$ on a gun "safe". And/butt, I'll have to show my daughter where I stashed my stuff, because I'm getting old and forgetful

Your right theres levels to everything. They are not life proof but offers the best protection you can get. I have a hard time believing the guns are rusted over after a few days of sitting in a damp environment. I expect there are a few reasons. The safe/guns exposed to extreme (often) heat of a fire and then cooling off after the fire is extinguished with cold water probably, or could, create condensation inside the safe? And in a significant fire the building/house, or what's left of it is soaked, plus the contents are soaked, dripping wet, so moisture content/humidity is very high. Plus, usually damaged door and window openings and roof of a fire damaged building are boarded over and that traps most of the moisture inside. The time to open safes generally seemed to be anywhere from a few days to a week, sometimes longer. I've been in fire damaged buildings two weeks after a fire and water is sometimes still pooled on floor surfaces and still dripping from above. Everything gets wet and stays wet. And if Mr/Ms/Mrs (them/they
) haven't kept up on the TLC of their fire arms I expect they're more susceptible to rust. All I know is what I've seen, that's it...I pull out my guns and wipe them down with an oiled cloth every now and then, plus run an oiled cloth down the bores, whether I've fired them or not. Heck I have shotguns and rifles that I haven't shot in 20 years, but I still maintain/baby them. I doubt I'm the only one on this site that does that LOL. And I agree, safes are just that, safe. I just choose a different direction is all.

All that being said, I have an anti Liberty safe from TS I bought a couple of years ago. I just bought this Winchester one for my son for Christmas. He's just wanting something to keep his girlfriend's cousins out of it when they're visiting.
Highly recommend changing the electronic lock with a manual dial.

The father of one of my friends kept his rifles in a cabinet like this right in the living room. Nobody ever touched anything in that cabinet. We knew it was off limits and respected each others parents enough to follow the rules of whatever house we were visiting. These cabinets were very popular going back to the 1950's or so.
There are vintage catalogs from JCPenny and Sears online that have these cabinets in them along with rifles and shotguns that were sold by both companies. Things have changed for sure.
