Wow! That deer had some fangs bro!Got my skull back not sure what to do with it yet. Can’t wait for the shoulder mount to be done but hopefully after Christmas. It burned up some of those brownie points I had in the bank

Before sunrise as in before legal hunting sunrise?4 pointer down, he just got double lunged with a 458 SOCOM. Not the one I wanted but he went limping through the yard just before sunrise. I intercepted him after a 60 yard stalk as he limped into my safe shot zone. Now to get a nephew for his first gutting lesson.
He came in early & left the yard to go through a field into a thicket on his way to a bedding area. I intercepted him halfway on his final journey during legal shooting hours. He's got a broken knee and shoulder with puss coming from the wounds. He's skinny now and weighed in at 76#.Before sunrise as in before legal hunting sunrise?

A little puss is good for building intestinal fortitudeBe careful that the infection hasn't gone through his whole body.
Well, today was looking strongly like the last day I'd be able to go out regular season. Was out a couple hours and it was just starting to rain a little when I saw a small doe step out at about 80 yards. Took a knee and shot, fawn came out right behind her and i figured might as well since I was going to be getting dirty anyway...

I took a small 6pt one year that someone had shot through a front knee, all pussy and infected. I shouldn't have even heard him coming up behind me but he was making so much noise trying to walk. He stopped less than 50 feet away looking at me. I though he didn't look right but wasn't aware how bad until I walked up to him. I left that leg and shoulder in the woods for the coyotes. A year previous I watched a doe for quite a while that couldn't even walk straight. Was crashing into trees, falling in the creek, couldn't even walk in an open area once she finally stumbled out of the creek. You'd think she drank a 5th of Jack. Never walked into a clean shot and didn't know where she went.I targeted a buck one year all thru bow & regular season, nicknamed him bigfoot, finally got him the last day of the season. Thankfully he had a steady routine and used the same trail every morning, I just had to get high enough on the hill so he'd pass in day light. Buck was a 6 pointer and unfortunately I gut shot him so recovery took several hours. The deer appeared to have been shot in the face, it was missing half it's nose and green puss covered half his face. Tough horney bastard was still working scrapes. Not one crumb of food in his stomach.
I called my local game warden to come check out the buck. First thing he said "I'm not giving you another tag", I said "I didn't want one just wanted to know if it was safe to eat". "I'm not a pathologist" he said and never came to look. I was so pissed at him for being lazy & me for the slow death I ate that cow footed buck and lived.
I'll likely eat this one sans the injured leg, won't know til I skin it in a few days.
Time to fill the doe tag

I ended up calling our local DEC officer and told him about her. He told me if I ever see a deer like that just take it down and call him, he'd come right out. Made me wonder if they know of some disease they aren't telling us about yet.
I kinda wondered that but he didnt seem to think so and I haven't heard of any cases of it in Broome countyProbably CWD
You had to..... It was coming right at you!!
I saw an owl today hunting. Big brown one. Not sure what type. Too bad it was due to the asshole walking in front of me while hunting and spooked it.... Along with any deer around. Also didn’t help there was a duck hunter around blasting the world. At one point he shot 7 times then chambered and fired an 8th.Anyone have any woodpecker tags? I can fill as many as I can get.
