I think there is a number you can call for a dog search in the syllabus you pick up when you get your hunting license. It's printed by the DEC. They are volunteers that will find your deer using their own dog. I know of people that have used them successfully.

I'm out last evening and blew it big time! Four, that I could see, does came in, all extremely hyper alert, and stopped , the lead doe was less than twenty yards. Now if I was right handed it would have been over right there, as it was I had to pivot around about 120 degrees and was well on my way to doing just that and probably 1-1/2 seconds from having the sights on her when something I was doing made an almost imperceptible 'tick' noise, thats all it took, she bolted about ten yards back the way they came and froze. I was able to get the sights on one of them but there was the bough of a hemlock limb right where I needed to shoot. I probably could have shot through it but that's not something I do and even at thirty yards it could deflect the ball enough for a bad hit and even worse out come, so I waiting, one step, thats all I need, one step, and boom, she decides to bolt in the only direction where I don't have a shot. So I came home empty handed. It was a beautiful evening in the late fall woods though and even as I took my time meandering through the woods in the twilight, I broke a sweat, HaH! Pretty rare this time of year. Great evening, in the woods and I got a good adrenaline spike out of it to boot, all in all, I'm calling it a win!

Every wounded deer I've tracked pulled a U-turn and went back to the direction they came from.

I have tracked From the beginning to see if it doubled back. Wife came along. We tracked further than last night. Another 30 yards from where I stopped last night, there was lots of blood in one bedding area. Looked like buck spent lot of time there. Circled around the tree. The trail went one direction 10 feet from that spot, and POOF, gone. No traces. We spend. Good three hours circling entire area. Nothing. I am out of ideas. Another random hunter joined in to help. We found nothing. It’s like it vanished from that huge pool of blood spot. Gave up after 8-9 hours of total search :(

Omg. I came back to same spot put my blind on. It’s last day in PA for hunting. 40 yards buck came out, by the time I grabbed my rifle my movement alerted it. It bolted. 2 seconds later doe came out and followed it. It’s a six pointer. This is not my year. 1 more hour I am calling it in and head home.

Had one in sight at 200 yards. Could get a clean shot and couldn’t tell if it was a doe or buck. Dammit. Another season with no deer

I went today and saw a lot of deer no shot on any of them. First thing in the morning I heard 3-4 get up and walk just outside my view. I saw one tail for about 2 seconds.
walked up to the hill and no deer saw a grousse sitting on a stump. Patted myself down to find my shot shells but left them in the truck. I walked 1/3 a mile back down and back up to shoot the grouse. Figured it would be gone. It wasn’t in the stump but it was 2’ in front. Shot him. Got some meat. Then figured I try for a few more. Got out of grousse habitat and chambered my slug again. Took two steps and two deer ran. Had I have not chambered that slug chances are I’d have been close enough to shoot. Saw two more deer on some one else’s property I can’t shoot them on. Saw a total of 5-6 deer and heard some more I didn’t see. I need to get up higher to get a better vantage point.
Might head to a little spot tomorrow not sure. Not the best spot but last chance I got. I’ve got no one to blame but myself since I missed a great shot.

I’m happy with something. I wish I’d have been shooting them all month. Ida have two more in the freezer. I’ll head back out there after some snow maybe and try for rabbits and grouse. I flushed quite a few of them. 5-6 at least and I wasn’t trying.

Hope you like heart attacks. Most of them will explode in a furry of thumping feathers before you see them.. Oddly they stay put when I'm riding my wheelers.

I’ve flushed many grouse. Usually when I’m hunting something else.
I did some reading last night and passing by gives them a sense of security. They say if you walk 30 yards then pause ready to shoot for about 5-10 seconds you’ll flush more grouse.
What I did worked. Of course it was only once so I’ll continue to try it again.
I spotted it with binoculars and was able to get a good shot and shoot high. Two pellets in the meat is better than peppering the entire bird. Will not work again consistently not sure but I’ll try it again. Maybe this weekend not sure. I might hit up soar valley. There’s lots of good mixed forests there.

It’s one in the bag. Good shooting.
I thought about getting a muzzle loader but o didn’t. I was close a few times this season so I figured I wouldn’t mind another shot but I was super exhausted this week.
