I went full veggie for tonights dinner. I couldn’t help my self. That red leaf lettuce was calling my name. 1 giant bowl, 1 head of red leaf lettuce , a handful of fresh basil , several fresh picked juicy red strawberries cut in thirds. Lightly douse everything in strawberry poppyseed vinaigrette and chow down !!

Found a bunch of holes in broccoli leaves this morning and a couple small green worms. Picked them off but how do I keep them from coming back?
Also my eggplants look sorry with holes as well - no visible worms. Any ideas?

Cabbage worms? If you dont have a lot of plants, pick them off and terminate. Look for eggs and pick those off as well.

I’m about to just give it up.
I had lots of peaches still and the fucking squirrels ate them all already. I hate fucking squirrels.
My wife got on the bird photo kick so she started feeding the birds and my God man there are so many birds. My strawberries were going gang busters so I put a bet over the like normal and the fucking robins just lift it up and go under it or pull it off. My wife weighted it down with rocks but it just is t worth it to me. I had a few cherries so I wrapped bird netting around them because some were about to be ready. I went to pick a few yesterday afternoon and the damn birds pulled the netting off and ate the flesh off the cherries and left the pits as a fuck you to me. I told my wife it’s because she’s feeding the fucking birds. She’s says nope if I feed them the won’t eat your stuff as much. Never had this much trouble before so I think her theory is wrong!!
Man I just don’t know. It’s not worth it for me to do all this shit to keep the animals away. The fucking raccoons are eating my pond snails to. I just need to sit out there with a gun and shoot everything but that would get me arrested.
My wife says I should build this elaborate cage thing around all my stuff but that’s ugly, is a PIA, and makes it a pain to pick. At lest the raspberries are too small for the birds to land on. I’m sure the robins will dig the bushes up or something and find a way to fuck me.

You know I’ve come to realize it think it’s partly due to the fact I live in the city. I was excited and thought it would be better since I wouldn’t have deer eating my stuff but there is nothing here to eat or keep the animal population in check.
I’ll routinely see 3-5 robins at a time, 2-5 squirrels at a time, 3-7 grackles, 3-5 starlings, 1-3 rabbits and there’s always raccoon shit in my backyard.
I think they run out of control because there’s no fox or other predators around. Oh I see possums too.

My wife has a fit. I was shooting the squirrels for a while then I just don’t want to hear it anymore. She’s right the neighbors next to me have a Bernie Sanders sign on their lawn or did up until a few weeks ago.

I will have to do something. I’m just not sure what. It’s my backyard so I don’t want it to look terrible and I have to cut the grass up to the strawberry patch so I can’t impede that or have to move it every time. My wife wants me to build some frame and bird netting over it.Assemble one of those portable small green houses
They are amazingly smart. My wife said she saw three working together to pull the net off the berries.
I feel a bit better today. I picked this morning and had a descent haul. I’d say 2/3 went ro is and 1/3 went to the birds literally.

From time to time I’ll use a wrist rocket slingshot and marbles on the squirrels. It obviously doesn’t kill them but it sure as hell shocks the shit out of them when they get hit wIth that marble! They tend to stay away for a while too. Same with the rabbits and chipmunks. ( little bastards) The birds I feed all winter and summer so that’s on me, but I have my berries set up so that it isn’t easy for them to devastate the different patches. Of course, you have a cherry tree and I know from being at my dads and seeing the birds when his tree is in fruit, the bastards are ravenous.

I had all but given up hope of finding any Beauregard sweet potato plants to plant this year. I happened to stop at a small mom & pop farm this morning that sells plant and while picking up something else I asked, out of habit, if they had any sweet potato plants . Wonder of wonders they actually did ,I was surprised as hell ! I Picked up a six pack of their very healthy Looking sweet potato plants, Two cucamelon plants and more flowers for the better half to plant and I headed on home. Now my garden ventures for this year are complete.
