I'm glad to see what they're supposed to look like! At the moment my wild blackberries look pathetic.

I’m guessing you’re in Putnam county but in the fall I should have a bunch of raspberry and strawberry plants to get rid of. If you’re interested I’d be willing to try to work a way to get you a bunch if you want. The raspberries I have produce two crops per season. I have current canes that produce berries and I have new canes coming up that will produce until first frost. Those cane coming up now will produce again in the spring of 2021. Those old canes that are producing now will die off in fall and I cut them off.

What I will take you up on is pruning advice at the end of the season tho.

Japanese beetles. I found two buzzing around garden last night near tomato plants. Should I be worried? Remember I’m a noob at vegetable gardening. Looks like neem oil or insecticidal soap should work but has to be sprayed directly on them. Any recos?

I find them rather hardy. What I do is visually inspect and knock them into a cup of soapy water and smash them. I don’t find sprays work very well.
Also the kind of cone and go. Can be light infestation or can be like locusts. Keep an eye out it essentially depends on the surrounding area and if others keep up on them how bad your attack will be. They are voracious eaters.

I find that the beetle traps with the scent pucks work pretty well at attracting the Jap beetles Away from the garden. I usually set up three in different locations in the yard based on wind direction.
follow the instructions on the package and don’t exceed the recommended distance from plants. They don’t trap them All but they do catch a shit ton of them.

I want to build a strawberry box for next year. What variety of strawberry plant do you have?
I’ve read that having the traps attracts tons of beetles that would not normally be in area. Any concerns about inviting more to the area?

I haven’t really found that to be the case but I suppose that is a Possibility. I Definitely notice the results on my veggie plants so YMMV

Free ones from my mom!! If you want free ones from my mom and sons just let me know. I can mail you some runners in the fall. They are good berries and productive. They grow well and good sized berries. No clue on the variety and only fruit once. They are not ever bearing.

Sounds good. I’m full with what I have so any extras I can part with and my mom always has extras. I usually have extra raspberry plants too if you want some. I’ve benefited from some karma lately on here so it’s about time I can return it to some one.
They should be all peat free and bad weeds free. I keep all that crap out of my yard.

Thanks for the offer of Raspberries. I actually have quite a nice patch of those and some nice blackberries too. I got the raspberries from my father in law several years ago. I’m also growing Navajo thornless black berries this year along with some blueberries. Strawberries will fit into the mix perfectly next year.
My grandkids eat the berries like they’re starving !
Same with my tomatoes. I grow two Juliet grape tomato bushes just for them to devour.
