The cooler temps are coming back in a couple of days.
I’ll be harvesting all my hot peppers for the season. I’ve got 4 varieties to do something with this weekend. I’ll most likely pickle a lot of them. Hot sauce for some and freeze the rest for winter chili.

Some of My Portuguese hot peppers are doing the same thing. I never gave it a thought as to why.

october. I heard you can plant garlic from the store but there is also seed garlic.

Just look up seed garlic suppliers. I’m sure there is a farmer local to you that will sell you some.

There is the possibility of success with planting store bought garlic, providing that it isn’t already dead. However, for optimal results seed garlic is a far better choice. And you’ll have a much better selection of garlic to choose from. Stores Only sell the soft neck variety because it stores much longer than other hard neck varieties.
you’ll also get much better flavor from freshly grown seed garlic., wether you prefer the soft neck or hard neck garlic.

Also I just read an article and hardlneck garlic grows much better in colder climates. Soft neck garlic grows in more temperature climates. You’re right the store bought stuff might do ok but seed garlic is a much better option.
Not sure if it’s the same but potatoes are sprayed with an anti sprouting spray to keep them from growing for longer. Onions are not so I would think garlic would be treated similarly to onion?

Any hardneck will do, German White is Easy with 7-8 large cloves

how many pounds on average is harvested from a pound of seed?
do you just save your garlic and plant the next year?

I would say average is 5 to 1
Most save their seed, I personally haven’t been successful doing that so I buy seed every year

Tomatoes, peppers of every color, onions, garlic and celery...it’s going to be a long night canning ...SALSA!!!!! I pickled 8 quarts of boiled eggs in a Hungarian hot wax bread and butter mix this morning. They should be the devil’s eggs at the Halloween party

Last night I put up 6 quarts of Hot pepper rings from these peppers. ( Portuguese hot, red&green hot cherry, jalapeño and serrano) the Cubenellas will be stuffed with prosciutto, smoked provolone, mozzarella and Italian salami then roasted on the grill to char the skin. That’s tonights dinner. The remaining tomatoes will be made into Bruschetta to accompany the peppers. I’ll have more hot peppers to Pick by the weekend. I also still have to dig up my sweet potatoes.

I cut away all the sweet potato vine so that I could dig up my sweet potatoes. Not a very good haul for some reason this year. There’s enough for a couple of meals and a couple Pies , but that’s about it this year.

Thanks. All the soil in my boxes look like that. I amend the soil every other year with fresh compost. Some that I make and some purchased, and a little peat .

I ran out of stinking jars for pickling my peppers so, this is My first attempt at a new hot sauce recipe. Jalapenos, serrano and hot green cherry with onion, garlic , cilantro , lime juice and pineapple.
it came out damn good too ! I still have a TON of peppers so for sure I’ll be making a Big batch of this In the next couple of days. I just have to source some bottles.
