Pets don't count.Just to make all you guys jealous.... View attachment 129546 View attachment 129547 I know the picture quality sucks, but that's the best I could do. View attachment 129548
Pets ? Nope. They're living a very nice life, but they're not pets. Admittedly, the most danger they face is crossing the road and the railroad tracks. The fawns have a harder time. There are coyotes in the area. The deer know the location of every bird feeder and every honeysuckle bush in Tonawanda. Those 3 are the biggest this year. There are 8 - 10 other bucks in the area this year, and easily 20 does. For the past several years there was a pieball walking around, but he was found dead on the railroad tracks last year. He was almost all white.Pets don't count.
You can always try catch-and-release squirrel hunting. The local raptors love that.Well @Kent Goldings ...ima hand you the trophy. Try as I might, I can't motivate myself to get out there and squirrel hunt anymore. The whole time I'd likely be praying I didn't get one to skin and eat.
Hats off to you for getting out there sir, and enjoying the great outdoors.
To focus on the positive, you motivated me to get my turkey hunting gear in order and ready for Oct. 16th.
At least you didn’t injure the deer.I took a 50 yard shot at a doe about 2 weeks ago. I spent the next 2 hours searching for the arrow. I found it today… View attachment 131986
In hindsight, It was a stupid move to take such a long shot. I knew how much hold over I needed. But, I didn’t factor in low hanging branches. At least you didn’t injure the deer.
Was the deer in the tree stand and you on the ground?I took a 50 yard shot at a doe about 2 weeks ago. I spent the next 2 hours searching for the arrow. I found it today… View attachment 131986
I've been riding 4wheelers in those woods . nice trails and a few backwoods taverns. My camp is north of 69 tween Camden & Taberg.
I was standing behind a tree. The deer was on an upward slope. Maybe a 10-percent incline. The arrow was only about 10 yards from where I shot. I’m guessing the arrow impacted about 12 feet high. Was the deer in the tree stand and you on the ground?
Looks alot like my first buck! Nice one.One of my sons ran into his big brother a few minutes later

Looks to be a nice sized healthy deer.I crossed paths with this pretty little forkie while hunting this morning.

Too bad it wasn’t a legal buck. Those forkie are pretty tender and are easy to drag out of the woods. All the same, it’s better to pass and hope it makes it to next fall.Looks to be a nice sized healthy deer.
I’ve got a nice 4 point sniffing around I’m hoping to eat soon.Too bad it wasn’t a legal buck. Those forkie are pretty tender and are easy to drag out of the woods. All the same, it’s better to pass and hope it makes it to next fall.
I thought it might be a doe until it turned to look at me. It had a single forked left antler and a button in the right. I’ve shot a spike before thinking it was a doe. Luckily, that was in 3M with no antler restrictions. After that, I don’t shoot lone deer on sight before getting a good look at their brow.
I let it get pretty close. Only about 10 yards. Since I had no concealment at all, there was no way to take a shot without spooking it. I stood still and used my phone to shoot.
Truth be told, I didn’t have a legal means to take any deer. I was carrying my Hawken Woodmans loaded for small game. I’m hoping to get some field experience before potentially hunting with it during December. It’s a fun gun to shoot. It’s more accurate than my inline muzzleloaders but, not as reliable. The 177 grain patched round balls have about half the practical range of the 300 grain Hornady XTPs use in the inline muzzleloader. View attachment 132798
I saw him at midnight too. Well my camera did. I’m hoping he’s one of the missed shots on the camera or he is there when I check on Friday. We've got a decent 4pt here too, only see him at night though. A couple days ago we seen 2, 4pters in Binghamton, in the city limits. Go figure lol.
Tempted to borrow my sons xbow because a big 10 point just showed up on the game cameras.Best wishes to everyone tomorrow for a safe and successful 2021 Xbow season.
