Pets ? Nope. They're living a very nice life, but they're not pets. Admittedly, the most danger they face is crossing the road and the railroad tracks. The fawns have a harder time. There are coyotes in the area. The deer know the location of every bird feeder and every honeysuckle bush in Tonawanda. Those 3 are the biggest this year. There are 8 - 10 other bucks in the area this year, and easily 20 does. For the past several years there was a pieball walking around, but he was found dead on the railroad tracks last year. He was almost all white.

Got out yesterday and today. Yesterday evening had a spiker pretty much walk up to my tree stand. Trying to get a scent and he looked right at me 4-5 times but never figured it out. This morning had a doe and two fawns walk in on me. She had the wind though and knew something was off. Got her into 20 yards. An hour later I another doe come out from the wind and had a nice broad side at about 25 yards. Suspect I slightly misjudged the distance. Arrow went right under her. Oh well.

You can always try catch-and-release squirrel hunting. The local raptors love that.

Not many pictures of deer so far.
I hope I have a good season but I’m. Not thinking so. The guy up the road sold and the new guy is working on the cabin, my dad is working where I hunt, and my mom just can’t/won’t stay out of the woods. I was grabbing my camera cards quickly and quietly and she comes running up the logging road screaming my name. She’s been working in the creek where I hunt too. She just doesn’t fucking get it. I can’t be too mean since it is their property.

Too bad it wasn’t a legal buck. Those forkie are pretty tender and are easy to drag out of the woods. All the same, it’s better to pass and hope it makes it to next fall.

I thought it might be a doe until it turned to look at me. It had a single forked left antler and a button in the right. I’ve shot a spike before thinking it was a doe. Luckily, that was in 3M with no antler restrictions. After that, I don’t shoot lone deer on sight before getting a good look at their brow.

I let it get pretty close. Only about 10 yards. Since I had no concealment at all, there was no way to take a shot without spooking it. I stood still and used my phone to shoot.

Truth be told, I didn’t have a legal means to take any deer. I was carrying my Hawken Woodmans loaded for small game. I’m hoping to get some field experience before potentially hunting with it during December. It’s a fun gun to shoot. It’s more accurate than my inline muzzleloaders but, not as reliable. The 177 grain patched round balls have about half the practical range of the 300 grain Hornady XTPs use in the inline muzzleloader. 18960375-D0F9-4B01-8E88-1D79A4067FC1.jpeg

I’ve got a nice 4 point sniffing around I’m hoping to eat soon.
I have to see him in person on the camera he looked a tad small so I may pass on him. I have no doe tag for my preferred hunting area so I’m not sure what I will do. If the moment comes I’ll make my decision then. His size was a bit hard to tell since the pictures I saw were later in the day and farther out from my camera. There’s a 8-10 pointer around too, but he seems a bit small too.

We've got a decent 4pt here too, only see him at night though. A couple days ago we seen 2, 4pters in Binghamton, in the city limits. Go figure lol.

I saw him at midnight too. Well my camera did. I’m hoping he’s one of the missed shots on the camera or he is there when I check on Friday.

I’m out today. Walking I I bumped two or three deer. I think one was the buck because he snorted very loudly and held his position for a bit. I paused and he took off, the 1-2 more followed.
All quiet since then. I heard two cross the creek but no eyes on them.

I heard a bunch bleating with eachother or the neighbors cows are out again.
