Nourse is where we buy our strawberry plants. You need to order in October or November to get selection and they ship when you want them (April)
You probably order by the pallet, and I only need ~100. What varieties are you growing this year?Nourse is where we buy our strawberry plants. You need to order in October or November to get selection and they ship when you want them (April)
This is in a greenhouse tho and it runs about 75° with full sun ect ect so I would think if your trying to start them in a basement or window it will take longer.April 5
I like the concept. I think @BDinPutnam has something similar.I thought this was neat

In addition to romain lettuce We plant and really like the Amish Heirloom butterhead lettuce. Red leaf is pretty good too , but not as crispWell I'm hoping this week I have some time to start some seeds in the basement. If I remember right the I will need to start the onions & peppers first. Then in a few weeks I'll start the tomatoes. I'm using the seeds I used last year I hope they kept will in the freezer.
I'm hoping to add another raised bed this year. I still think the concrete one I made last year is the answer for me, but I don't have the time to do that this season. So the new bed will be made out of rough cut hemlock.
I will be also adding 2 more (4 total) railing planters. We tried a few different lettuces but none of them really interested us other than romaine. But I'm open to suggestions. Also I'm thinking about starting the lettuce from seeds right in the planter and stagger them by a couple weeks. I also kicked around the idea of planting the butts of some store bought romaine instead of seeds. Any thoughts?
I still haven't done anything with composting or worm composting. I really want to do something with this but I haven't had the time to do anything.
Do you start it from direct sow seeds? If so does that work well for you?In addition to romain lettuce We plant and really like the Amish Heirloom butterhead lettuce. Red leaf is pretty good too , but not as crisp
The wife has been after me to build a small greenhouse for her the last couple of years but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.Do you start it from direct sow seeds? If so does that work well for you?
I would look because peppers and tomatoes are annuals. You might get low to no germination rate on seed left in the freezer.Well I'm hoping this week I have some time to start some seeds in the basement. Yep. Just think if needed. One or two plants per cup is good.I don't plan on doing many plants so I figure I will over plant by a lot and hopefully get enough to make a go of it.
Late frost last year ruined what would have been first year of fruit on a ~dozen trees. We got two little baby peach abortions that were delicious, but I have been waiting a few years now, mostly for the plum's and ranier cherries. Hopefully better luck this year.Nothing yet but my apple and peach trees are blooming. I’m scared a hard frost will take them out. Honey berries will be blooming soon too. Crazy warm this year very early.
If you do raised beds that are only 4' wide you can easily reach the middle. I like mine 16" tall. That way I can work from my knees or bending over.Going cash crop only, need to plant so I don't go over the old/new limits. Lol
The wife only wants to do potted plantings, the big raised beds are too much for her. Guess they will rest (crop rotation and all). 7 rows each 19' x 38" wide. Planted with the intensive style.
