Wonder how hard they would be to make as far as the plastic sabot goes.

There used to be an ad in the back of Shotgun News for the company that makes these. They also made a sabot for 7.62 bullets in a 50 BMG case.Wonder how hard they would be to make as far as the plastic sabot goes.
I wonder if this type of concept in a shell could count legally as a "slug" in shotgun only areas? There used to be an ad in the back of Shotgun News for the company that makes these. They also made a sabot for 7.62 bullets in a 50 BMG case.
I mean using the same cartridge, like in these "accelerator" rounds.
I don't think it would be any good in a shotgun load. You need the rifling to spin the sabot off the projectile. The shotgun will send it down range as a unit and at a lot slower speeds than out of a rifle barrel.I wonder if this type of concept in a shell could count legally as a "slug" in shotgun only areas?
Speaking of China, if they got friendly with the us and the import bans got changed, China probably has enough parts kits to last until laser rifles are in the CMP matches. Just think, billions of type 56 kits, type 63 kits, and ammo by the boatload.I understand. I am also saying because there are good reasons why the service rounds migrated from 30 caliber to 5.56.
Perhaps the ideal would have been the 6mm like the chinese have done with the service cartrige but this is another story.
with accelerators:
-Accuracy and consistency is not possible.
-Then in an auto-loader the sabots will shave when passing over the gas port clogging it and eventually causing it to malfunction
and will be a royal PITA to clean up.
-They can be used for varmint given the animal is not too far away so you can hit it since normally they are small and hard to hit.
I see these as curiosity / novelty items.

Holy moly! The freaking sabot could kill you with that kinda pep behind it! I bet a .30 bullet would just disintegrate as soon as it hit anything at that velocity. There used to be an ad in the back of Shotgun News for the company that makes these. I'm not sure, this is going back many years but i think they used a Barnes solid bronze bullet and it got pushed to almost 5,000fps. If it did disintegrate when it hit the target i guess that would be a kick ass varmint round (except for the cost). There used to be a magazine called Varmint Hunter(?) that every month in the last couple of pages they would have the 500, 1000, and 2,000 yard club. They would need another member as a witness to confirm the varmint kills (mostly prairie dogs). That might have been where i read about it. Wish that magazine was still around.Holy moly!
