Only one thing to do: more gun laws that will limit access to people in the suburbs. Funny how zero shots were fired in my town last night or the night before or the one before etc. despite actual gun ownership rates higher out here.

My daughter is considering RIT. Is it far enough to avoid this kind of shit?
My older daughter did a summer class at Syracuse after her junior year. We weren’t worried, but you hate to tell a kid, “Don’t go here, or here, and you should be okay.”
Also on the list: Penn State (of course), Steven’s (not that we can afford it, but pay rates for grads is 20% higher than the average), Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, SUNY Binghamton.

actually, all this shooting is taking place about a mile from me. RIT is about 8 to 10 miles south of all this shit. Henrietta is a fairly safe town. and RIT owns most of the area for Jefferson rd, to East River rd, to Leigh sta rd to John st. They own about 10 to 15 sq miles, plus they own a bunch of apartment complexes off campus.

RIT is a very nice campus, two of my kids are alum's, heck, you can deer hunt across the road. Stop in if you are in the area, I'm about fifteen minutes south.

And the funny thing about ROC is you can go pick up crack on a corner and then gun down somebody on the next corner, then a mile down the road it's a nice upscale neighborhood with grand houses and fine dining.
Hate DT Rochester.... some scum bucket broke into my van at the Maplewood Family YMCA parking lot. I was gone 5 minutes and they broke my window. Dummy me had my wallet in my geocaching bag. $100 and all my cards and ID. Of course the peopel right there sweeping up the parking lot seen nothing - right! Cops never even came when I called them. Have a good friend who lives on Lake just up the road, I was visiting him and we went to quickly to find a geocache. Nice area, but not so on the other side of the bridge (if you can say that).
Yeah Rochester is not so segregated as Buffalo is/was.
Funny you mention that. Haven't had shots fired in my area in years, yet on the street I live on, with around 16 families living here, and all but one are gun owners yet never a problem. Go figure . And im certain all 50 shots were fired in self defense by law abiding, concealed carry permit holders with extensive firearms training who first attempted de escalation and avoidance to mitigate potential problems.

There's a couple small neighborhoods in the city there are rough, and you don't get to them by accident, they're easy to avoid. This incident was one of those places. 90% of the problems in Rochester are in this small crescent.
RIT is in a great area and is a great school. It was my 2nd choice after Alfred University.

Avoid the area in red and you're perfectly fine. RIT is well outside that.

Between all the extreme wealth inequality, gentrification, poverty, drugs, crime, gangs it's just not worth it. It's just a metric crap ton of failed social policies over decades.
There's so much wrong with them they're best avoided.
