$500 AR Build

Picked up Aero Precision Gen 2 lower yesterday. Figured this is a good time for a low cost build thread on here. Will post after assembled in the coming weeks.

Going fixed mag with all evil features.

Should be coming in at $532 including all taxes and shipping. I could have easily kept it under $500 with an lpk I had but went with a polished trigger group to try it out.

So no optic, just iron sights. That's a good option. I use factory a2 sights on my m&p-15-22. I like the absolute co-witness with them.

Isn't the freedom line just slightly more in price? I've seen too many negative reviews on the ptac stuff. I'm very happy with my ss freedom middy upper.

Keeping low cost but not crappy cheap. PTAC is just lower finish quality not a reliability compromise. Barrels not chrome lined, laser markings not stamped, T marks faint or absent etc.. There are you tube reviews and comparisons that are positive about PTAC. I have higher quality ARs but this is an excercise in keeping in at the $500 range while maintaining reliability.

PSA came through today.....
Initial thoughts are better than expected. Finish is consistent and well done throughout. Barrel is stamped not laser etched. Bolt is substantial and staked well. F marked front sight post. No T-marks on flattop but who really needs that anyway. Hanguards are not flimsy, not double heat shield type but I had thinner ones come with my Stag upper that cost me alot more. For $259 this was a steal.

I'll report more on the stock/lpk and the trigger group when I open them up this weekend.

Ok, so here's a closer look at the PSA polished trigger group. Hammer and trigger coated with a self lubricant. Nice light trigger spring. Was thinking about switching out with a 4.5 lb geiselle I had but decided on keeping this for a more standard combat pull. Once again light years better than expected and night/day better than standard milspec triggers. $29

One spring was cropped out of picture but included.

Is the non=chrome lined bbl an issue ? I've read that it's ''harder to clean''..............how clean do they have to be ? A few passes w/ the brush and cleaning jags on my c/l bbl and I call it good.............do you just make more passes w/ a non-chrome lined? I wish they would offer this upper w/ the ''compliant''bbl they have for $107.00 (target crowned) 16'' 1x7 .

I was SO meticulous when I was first afflicted w/ BRD. Cleaning so much actually was making me NOT shoot due to ALL that cleaning !! LOL Finally realized how unneccessary it was. I clean w/ a brush /jag some, if the lugs look grungy, outside w/ non-chlorinated brakecleaner give it a couple of blasts, reoil them a little. Quick breakdown/wipe/oil the bolt group and I call it a day. And this is only done w/ a MINUMUM of 500 rds or so ....usually longer OR>>>>>>>>>>>>>if I'm REALLY,REALLY BORED. I DO love the smell of Hoppes and CLP!!!

I got 3 rifles i shot suppressed that need to be cleaned BAD. I have not do it cause they still run.

Think of it this way, how many lever actions, bolt actions and for that matter semi-autos are chrome lined? Pretty much see them only in AR/AR types. So with that said.....no problem at all.

Here a closer look at the UTG carry handle sight. Solid lock up, milspec made in the USA. The dials are responsive without play and large peep/small peep pivot is stiff. Thumb locks are solid although blue lock tight wont hurt just to be sure. 7075 forged aluminum. Box claims these are torture tested. Windage has reference marks on rear for zeroing. Finish is well done and not overly glossy and matches rifle well (camera flash made it appear so). $45

Where does it say it is an "f" marked height? Milspec i see. Slightly ambiguous.
