I'm in a dillemna, though. If I vote for Republicans they'll attack my right to get married, or even use a public restroom. Voting is not clear cut for me. But let's not sidetrack this thread.

I don't know what you mean exactly by marriage but if you're alluding to gay marriage I think the country is basically tired of it, it's now apparently legal at the federal level, so it's done and done. As for bathrooms, this is just a fabricated topic of late to just divide and annoy people. There have always been and will always be public bathrooms for people regardless of their junk.

Hate to break it to you but nobody has the right to get married. Scotus manufactured that right.
Marriage was a religious ritual usurped by the state for taxation and other nefarious purposes - The gubberment has no business in it and should stay the hell out of it. The Scotus ruling simply set more precedent to further insure the state's involvement.
If religious folks want to perform a marriage ceremony in a religious institution, have at it but it should mean absolutely nothing to the state.

Oh, I see. I wondered what the shovel comment was about. It's one way to respond, but I think it's ultimately a futile one. Hiding guns will not stem the tide of gun prohibition. It would just let things get worse. Ultimately, only direct resistance stops tyranny. That's my armchair revolutionary opinion, at least.

From the outside looking in Texas is closer to purple than it is dark red.
There have been a lot of California transplants (fleeing high taxesand regulations but not equating those very liberal policies with being their cause of not liking what California has become) illegal immigrants, and an influx of progressives from the Northeast to the urban areas (austin, Houston, dallas, )and Texas whether we want to admit it or not has steadily drifted towards the center. I haven't looked but going off memory I feel like the republicans are only getting maybe 56% of the vote in national elections.
We have our asshole governor about to be re elected tomorrow and the state assembly will likely tilt far left. This ass is going to have carte Blanche to ram thru safe act 2.0 and he's going to try because he wants to show the rest of the whackjob progressives on the national stage that's he's just as far left as they are so he can keep his name in the hat for the dem 2020 Presidential primary.

Not sure if this will help you, but...
I was in a similar dilemma after 2013, when the Tyrant decided to infringe on our Rights here in New York.
My basic philosophy became, "do I vote for the ones I fear MIGHT take away my Rights, or do I vote for the ones that HAVE taken away my Rights."
Once I realized that, it became easier to vote against what I perceived as the greater evil.
And, ultimately, if we have our guns, then any other infringement on our Rights can be solved using the same method the Founding Fathers did.
But I sure do wish either Party would present a candidate I could actually vote FOR, in clear conscience.
