7.62 bullpup finally finished

Did a build thread on this a while back, it's buried here somewhere. Finally received the front tri-rail, and extended mag quick release. Holy Hell, it takes shernic gun works forever (about 8 months), but I'm really happy with the finished product. Just recently bought myself 1000 rounds of 7.62 so I can finally take this out this year.

I keep the 10 round box mag in this for obvious NY reasons, but also have detachable mags for it when out of state.

Great, compact rifle. While not quite an ar trigger, I have reworked this, and it's damn nice for a bullpup.



This 16" rifle is actually smaller than my 10.5" ar pistol!

Decided to throw irons on it before I take it out to zero. Short sight radius, but this is a short range rifle anyways.

Besides, it actually looks pretty good with the cary handle on it.

I also replaced mags with the stock box mag. Figured I'd get less dirty looks from anyone looking to give me grief as sad as that is.

After doing some function tests with this, I was getting a failure to reset here and there. Thought I would try to adjust my trigger today, and found the problem.

Here is the sgworks in stock form.

There is a series of like skeletonized ovals in the stock.



Some have had issues with the linkage getting cought up in here, so I dremmeled it all out to a hollow space. That was a mistake, as the linkage would lift just a bit causing my reset issues. Had to fill that space back in with epoxy, and make sure the linkage couldn't snag anywhere, or lift during a trigger pull.

Now I wanted to adjust a bit to take out some of the initial trigger take up, but I'll leave as is. It's working 100%, so best to just leave it alone. It's already a much better trigger than the stock sks was anyways.

Threw the holosun back on, I just can't see irons very well anymore, and also added an angled vfg. Much more comfortable.

I have two questions if you don't mind:
1-Does the stock has a thick shield to provide at least some protection to ones face and eyes in case of catastrophic failure of the breach?
2-Have you put it in a scale as it is and know how much is the final weight?

This will be very helpful as I am considering one for a compact carbine.

Question 1
Nothing whatsoever.
It has a spring loaded deflection shield that opens to allow loading by stripper clips.



Question 2
Just went to weigh it, and scales dead.
This is an early milled sks. It's not light, and I have even added some weight to it up front with the fake can to help balance it a bit better, although that makes up for the few inches I chopped off barrel. Of course all the weight on these is in the back, I could actually easily shoot this one handed.

I'm going to take a guess it's right around 8- 8.5 lbs, which is probably close to what a stock sks is, but balanced very differently.

Speaking of catastrophic failure, I've never heard of one coming from an sks, just the usual slam fires from a dirty bolt. You have any horror stories I should know of? I know it can happen to anything, just never heard of one in the sks.

I wanted something in 7.62, and with it's box mag I remain 100% legal, and full velocity with 18" barrel in the same sized package. I know this is not a PSA or Rguns upper but something a lot more robust than the crap some sell.
Catastrophic failures do not happen because a gun might be prone to failures but due to a set (normally 2 or more) circumstances.
But all it takes is one mistake with one round and/or an obstruction to potentially exceed the maximum pressure the breach can take
and then kaboom.
If one shoots long enough a failure or two is not a matter of if but when. If you don't shoot a lot you might go an entire life w/o
a single issue, perhaps not eve a dud? Quality of ammunition is more important than the quality of the gun because mistakes in ammo
count for a high perfectage of failures. Althogh I have seen a bit of everthing including short tenons, defective bolts, broken cams/guides,
headspace mistakes, etc...
There is no gun that is impervious to a fatal mistake.

Bored tonight. Decided to try on the 1x6 lpvo on my "slightly modified" sks. It found it's new home. Even with faux can on, the bullpup was still too back heavy for my liking. This balances the weight out just perfectly. Now I have to actually get out for some fun, this hasn't even been fired yet. Actually, my last several builds haven't been fired. Life has been just way to busy the last few years.

Actually playing with this tonight has me itching for a 7.62x39 in ar platform. I have another stripped lower laying around, but I think I'll just do a 7.62 side charger upper to swap out with my dedicated 22lr lower. That lower has the hypertouch trigger which will work very well with the hard 7.62 primers. It's a cammed trigger at 2.5 lbs, but it wallups the firing pin.

Can't remember if I mentioned in this, or the original build thread, that the only flaw with this stock is the pic rail is out of spec. Came home from work at 12:00 am, spent about half hour or so carefully filing the rail to fit the optic, wake up to this! Can't believe I overlooked that lol. The shield just misses! Dumb ass! Oh well, have to take off the flip up cap on the scope, then it clears.

Actually, I'll move the scope up in the mount, only need about 1mm.
