Oh I agree, a nice 1911 is cool to have. Just as you, I also don’t see the benefit to running a 1911 nowadays. A gun that was designed in the late 1890’s…before the first Ford Model T rolled off the production line. I’ll give the 1911 it’s due, it had a great run and did what it was intended to do for a long time. But just like an ever aging fighter, they gotta know when it’s time to call it quits when there are younger, faster, more equipped fighters out there. 1911’s are not the most practical. For me, I’d rather get a badass 2011 like a Staccato, Triarc, Atlas…As @Will556 stated I just don’t see the benefit of .45 over 9mm .
I do however see a point of a niiiice 1911 in the ole .45 for nostalgic reasons .
A nice 1911 is on my want list , but I’d more than likely go 10mm at that point . Oh the blasphemy !
Well ain’t that a fun fact !!Oh I agree, a nice 1911 is cool to have. Just as you, I also don’t see the benefit to running a 1911 nowadays. Quick side note, it’s quite apropos we are discussing the 1911 today since it was on February 14th 1911 that Browning’s patent was issued for the 1911…Valentine’s Day! A date always easy to remember.
Just like @That_FNG said, shot placement is much more crucial than the caliber itself. If shot placement is more critical, wouldn’t you choose the caliber that allows for better follow up shot placement than the other? It’s not just a concept that 45acp recoils more than 9mm but just a plain fact. With modern technology of cartridges being what it is, 9mm is able to inflict comparative damage (and sometimes better) to soft tissue and barriers than it’s big brother. I’m not saying shooters are not able to shoot 45acp quickly, cause they can. But if you can shoot 45acp quickly, you can shoot 9mm quicker. 9mm recoils less, which means quicker follow up shots, more rounds on target accurately, you can carry more rounds, it’s physically less weight to carry than 45acp, it is cheaper to shoot. If more people were honest with themselves and weighed the pro’s and con’s, there would be even more people carrying 9mm than before.
Cause he’s a Fudd!I once had an old timer tell me that .45 has superior knock down power . He said with 45 you’ll shoot through the bad guy and the 2 houses behind him . I asked if that were true why the hell would I want to do that !?
Yes yes he is .Cause he’s a Fudd!

Yeah you whippersnappers think you are so funny. At the risk of making some one butt hurt this thread needs a reference I believe it was @Edwardteach72 who once referred to 45 as the .45 AARP
Still cracks me up !!
Agreed, just one of those options makes it easier to deliver the bad day to said bad person. lolIn all seriousness in a self defense scenario I’m thinking your attacker won’t much care which round they just got hit with . Either one makes for a very bad day for the recipient .
Lol I get ya and agree .Agreed, just one of those options makes it easier to deliver the bad day to said bad person. lol
Just get a .40sw
You get best of both worlds
.45acp stopping power but with 9mm capacity
The 1911 trigger. [mic drop]Oh I agree, a nice 1911 is cool to have. Just as you, I also don’t see the benefit to running a 1911 nowadays.
Sure if ya can find an AIWB holster for it I’ll give it a go !The Schwerer Gustav! 800mm…the best mm! When you need to kill something 30 miles away.

Except .357 sig has no terminal ballistic advantage over 9mm and the ammo costs more .I'll keep my Sig 229 .357Sig tac driver!
Thank you very much!
9mm need not apply!
Neither revolver nor rifle.Last night's target. S&W Shield 1.0, 3" barrel. 24' Two strings of 3 mags x 8 rounds rapid fire plus a few loose rounds. Shots on target. View attachment 146994
I say we take the 2011 platform and bring it into the modern age.Oh I agree, a nice 1911 is cool to have. Just as you, I also don’t see the benefit to running a 1911 nowadays.
