Just curious, how many of you serfs are working today? Apparently the major stock markets are closed today for a day of mourning for H.W. I'm guessing the only ones privileged enough to mourn the passing of our former president are those who work at the major market exchanges. WTF? The rest of us are too lowly to mourn?

Why should the exchanges be closed today? aaaaahh, oh yeah, because the mastahs are mourning and preoccupied with a burial and won't be able to monitor the markets to control their collective trillions.

Is there always this big of deal when a past US President passes away?

Was it like this when the late Presidents, Nixon (1994), Reagan (2004), Ford (2006) passed away?

I don't remember it being such a big deal when those 3 passed away. But I was also a busier guy back then
and I didn't pay as much attention to political stuff as I do now so IDK.

I get that he was a president. I get that he had a full life. I get he was shot down and served. He still was a human being though that bled if he got cut and laughed if he was tickled. I am not big on holding any human up higher than anyone else. As @Podmonkey stated, death is part of life. The world should move on without coming to a standstill all because another human being has died. Nothing personal meant by my words. I just find the older I get the more matter of fact I become.

No, it's all pomp and circumstance. The state has replaced religion for the masses so every death or any other political event is hyped up into a spectacle. Before you would just go to church, now you watch hyperbolic sentiment on the news. And you convince yourself that you give a damn.

The main saving grace of old age is that no one even expects you to give a fuck. You can just say whatever you want, dress however you want, do whatever you want. What's anybody gonna do about it? You're old, you get a pass.

My wife is looking forward to this, and making bucket lists of crazy shit to do as an old person. I’m concerned, and setting aside an extra part of my 401k for bail money.
