Looking to sell my (SMLE) Ishapore 2A1 rifle chambered in 7.62x51 NATO
Asking $350 or best offer.
This is not a 303 converted to 7.62x51. This was designed and built from the outset to fire 7.62x51 NATO.
Basically in the late 1960's the Indian Armed Forces was switching over to the L1A1 battle rifle, however they did not have enough to equip all their front and reserve troops. So the decision was made to produce new SMLE rifles chambered in the 7.62x51 NATO cartridge, thus allowing rear echelon and reserve troops to familiarize themselves with the new NATO cartridge. Production started in the early 1960's (1963 approx) and continued until 1975.
Again, this is not a conversion, but a new production in 7.62x51 NATO. It is perfectly safe to shoot any 7.62x51 NATO out of it, I would not however try to shoot 308 Winchester out of it, as the 308 Winchester has higher pressures (due to the slightly thinner brass).
I will include an SMLE firing pin tool as well.
All sales must go thru FFL and requisite background check.
