The problem with price controls has always been that when the price is too low there is not enough production, so there are shortages.
I just had the bright idea to change this. Just mandate minimum production rates as well. If you limit the price of food, tvs, cars, etc. but also you mandate by law that they have to produce x amount of food, tvs, cars, etc. you could see a society in which we are full of options and yet cars are all like $3k brand new. Could do the same for houses, too. $20k house seems good to me.
So to summarize: $3k cars, $20k houses. Unlimited milk at $1/gallon, and automatic minimum income of $70k/year, so that people can hold their heads high and proud to be American.
"You get a Skoda! And you get a Skoda! EVERYONE GETS A SKODA!"
Will we have enough unicorns for all the fairies to ride in this world ?
As soon as your mandated price drops below profitability people will just stop making them. You could force people to keep makeing things against their will i suppose. It used to be pretty common.
There was a word for it, started with a "S"
What will you do when the farmer can't make $70k/year with milk selling for $1/gallon ?
I know you're not being serious, but there really are people out there who think like this.
I think I need to borrow that life preserver you were alluding to earlier.
