I mean if this kid is running from the police with a gun in his hands... not really sure what to say? A lot of things transpired quickly here.
Kid shouldn't have been running around with a gun. I'm sure it didn't help the way in which he turned around like that suddenly at the end either, even though he wanted to turn himself in.
Such a shame. It's hard to tell, but not sure I'm ready to blame the officer in this case.

The kid shot at a passing car, eight shots at the car. He ran from the Police and when confronted, this young yut, in fact had a gun in his hand. Great situational awareness from the officer.
I don't know how the law and court of public opinion will take to this one, but fault and blame isn't what this post is about.
Some might think it's in bad taste to say something like this under the circumstances, but this forum does discuss training and skill with firearms and on those topics I thought it worth mentioning that under the circumstances this was IMO impressive shooting by this officer. With no doubt high adrenaline, and running what looked to be maybe a 100 yds or so, he barely comes to a stop (looks like he's stepping forward, then stepping backward while shooting) and places a single shot which proves completely disabling. I don't think that was at all luck; it looked like precision and confidence in training to me. How often do you see this kind of thing when an officer places just one precise shot under such circumstances ? Almost never. All I'm saying is whether or not this is considered a "good" shoot, it was skillfully controlled use of a firearm.
Also, just to be clear, I do think this is obviously a justified shoot. This, “At the time Adam was shot, he did not have a gun.”, and “That child complied. Adam complied with the officer’s request. The officer saw his hands were up and he pulled the trigger.”, stuff just pisses me off.
This still pretty much shows it all. Looks like the kid may have dropped it during his turn and probably behind his body. Can't even see it happen in the video.

Its a shame. Where are this kids parents? That 21 year old should be charged with felony murder.
Im not sure what to make of it yet, but the kid obviously didnt want to be caught with a gun in his hand. Regardless of anything all we are going to see is a picture with the kids hands up, flashlight on him, and that the officer shot him. The context of the chase, reason for being there in the first place, and split second timing will not be looked at in the eyes of the public.

I dont completely agree with this.
There are 13 year old kids out there that would blow your mind with the amount of violence within them.
Their age is exactly why they can be so violent. They are very impressionable and rarely think about consequences. They have no experience with the real world and their only goal in life is to be "cool". Kids under 20 kill a lot of people in this country....a shocking number of people. They are also more likely to thrill kill.....like this kid randomly shooting at passing cars. They have not been alive long enough to learn consequences.
I agree whoever gave him the gun is partly at fault but his parent hold some blame too. But, he was old enough to know he was doing wrong and for that he deserved what he got.
We also need to remember these kids have one of three types of parents.... Some at more fault than the others.
His parents could be the negligent type, who dont pay attention or even care what hes doing and maybe even participate in his hoodlum lifestyle.
Then his parents could be the type who have tried everything but chaining him to a radiator in his bedroom. They may have had him in counseling, boot camps and other programs for unruly kids.
Or, his parents may be completely shocked. This kid may have had an almost double life. He may have been a good kid around his parents but a hoodlum around his friends. I knew kids like this growing up and know that you cannot completely blame the parents for not knowing or paying attention..... some kids are very good at this.

In the story it was the 21 year old shooting at cars, and Ill assume he gave the gun to the 13 year old when he heard sirens.
I have almost thrown up in my mouth reading all the bleeding heart bullshit in the media about how the kid was murdered. Same goes for that asshole Mayor saying the "Killings" need to stop! I know she wasn't referring to the B on B crime, and wasn't talking about the dozen or so weekly shootings in Chicago!
Also the kid was complying bullshit... If that were so, he would not have RAN from the officer. And my take is from that moment on, let alone running away while obviously ARMED, all subsequent consequences are owned by the non-compliance!

But I don't believe that any officer has to put their own life in danger in order to take a chance that hey, maybe it's a toy gun. Maybe it's a cell phone... So here... A response to a Shots Fired call... And upon arrival 2 miscreants run and fail to comply with lawful commands to stop! One is pushed to the ground and the other who ahead continues to run and has a gun in his hand... He stops by a fence opening an turns while shielding the hand that had the gun! He motions raising his hand that had the gun!...

And quite frankly, what choir has practice at 2:30 in the a.m.? Guess his mother never told him nothing good happens after midnight! Like WTF!

A gun in hand represents a threat, period! And until that threat is eliminated the officer has no duty to let down his guard and not protect himself. And that doesn't mean allowing someone the first shot either! The mentality out there is ridiculous! I just don't get it ...

So here, the kid knew exactly what he was doing, and at the last minute he thought he was going to be smarter than anyone... But he wasn't, and most criminals aren't! And this may be a clear case too why those body cams don't always help, because the after event scrutiny in frame by frame exam doesn't put you in the moment! It's easy to judge from the comfort of the armchair!

I think in this case the body cam did put you in the moment. To me it proves the cop was justified in his actions. However there are people that will not see it this way no matter what the videos show.

I'm telling you man, best decision you can make is to live where the busses don't run. Public transportation imports criminals to your neighborhood.
I do all I can to stay away from public transportation. For the majority of rides in this area, the people that ride are not my kind of person.
The last time I rode on a bus was in the 80's when I was a kid with no car.
I would be happy if they all went out of business.
It is difficult at times though, sometimes we need to shop at stores that are on direct bus lines and routes.
Good thing about bus stops, easy targets to splash with puddles of water and slush durinmg the winter.

I wanna start by saying this is a tragic waste of life and talent. With better role models this kid could have been anything in life. That being said the cops training really shows here. One well placed shot stopped the threat and he almost immediately started rendering aid. I skimmed the video so I may have missed this but I don't think they checked his back for an exit wound. Meaning if there was another hole the chest seal may have not been effective. Although at that point it may not have mattered

We know it was intentional because the rest of the video edit kept Toledo in best view, but the split second in which the gun can be seen, they conveniently pulled the edit to the left to keep him hidden before panning back to show him getting shot.
