Yes, the State Police sent a letter to Erie County demanding Lewis' permit get yanked. Yes, it did get yanked. Yes, it created a lot of furor. Yes, it got quickly reinstated. But that's about all we know.
Much beyond that is pure speculation. The State Police wouldn't be transparent, and Tresmonds had a history of playing fast and loose with the truth. It COULD have been the State Police trolling through the prescription database and testing the waters. But it also COULD have been a simple case of mistaken identity. As much as Mr. Lewis was a victim here, so too was the truth.
As for your case, I sincerely believe you'll be OK. Absent any other red marks on your background, ADHD probably wouldn't be a disqualifier.

The confiscation of Mr. Lewis' guns wasn't a singular event. There have been news reports of other confiscations to other people under similar conditions.

Let's be clear -- are you talking about people being suspended because they're anxiety meds? Or are you talking about cases where doctors reported a patient per the SAFE act, and similarly permits were revoked?

So just googling around, the overwhelming majority of cases were from people who were involuntarily committed, mentally adjudicated somehow (often overlapping with the first category), or reported by their physicians as being "dangerous."

The accounts I read said permits were pulled because of the medications those people were prescribed. It isn't clear if referrals were made by DOH to State Police, or if the SP are able to data mine DOH records.

There's very little info I could really find here on if that's possible. Not saying it doesn't happen, but I haven't found much supporting info.
We'd need to find more info as to "when" this reporting started, what triggers it, and on what circumstances that reporting is acted upon.
I'm not trying to break your balls on this (wouldn't want to cause @Darth to get wind), but I really do want to try to understand how this policy functions. From everything I see, reporting only occurs if a mental health professional reports you to NYS and it goes via normal channels. It doesn't seem to trigger on drugs alone, except maybe in the case of the Nassau County PD which uses the controlled substances database.
All the cases that I've seen around meds, are just reposts of the Amherst case from Erie in 2013/2014 -- and whether that was mistaken or not is up for debate.

There was also a case from Long Island irrc about a guy who recently moved there (form upstate I believe) to be closer to his daughter and was having trouble sleeping. Went either to the ER or Urgent Care with insomnia issues and was prescribed sleeping pills. He had his permit yanked too. I think the reason may have been because a box was erroneously checked that he was involuntarily committed, which got his permit yanked, and not because of the prescription.
The issue comes down to are the State Police scouring pharmacy records to see who's taking what and yanking permits that way or are they being reported on by their physician or mental health clinician. My understanding is that it's usually the doctor/therapist that reports them to the county who are supposed to review the case before sending it on to the State to have their guns confiscated.
It's nebulous and convoluted and difficult and expensive to fix. I don't understand it and unless you talk to someone at the County Mental Health Department I don't think you'll really know and I can bet none of them will give you a straight answer.

Agreed it's unclear. However, it would appear most evidence is, as you reiterated, on the side of "a therapist reports you." It seems the extremely small amount of cases outside of that, have been errors or reported to have been errors and the cases were shortly dropped / reversed when investigated properly.
Still, bottom line is you have to add a layer of "will this cause me legal problems" when it comes to every day regular mediciation these days. Never fill anything before researching the schedule status and understanding the legal complications.

Also, did he also have his firearms restored similar to the Erie case? I'd assume they dropped it fast once NYS realized the implications.

That case was several years ago and I don't know what the outcome was. At the time he was filing suit because he had not had his firearms restored to him.
At the end of the day, this whole thing upsets me to the extreme. What medications you're on and what therapy you receive should be between you and your doctor. You shouldn't live in fear of losing your rights if you seek physical or mental health treatment.

I have it bookmarked to order from Amazon tomorrow when I get paid. I’m also looking at some vegan omega 3 supplements (I can’t stand the fish burps from fish oil pills). I’ll give your stuff a try for a while first, and add the omegas after that so I’m only changing one thing at a time.

ADHD or not, having a good system to organize and appraise your daily goals and work helps keep your accountable to yourself and tracks your progress. It helps me keep on task.
I'm personally a big fan of Todoist since it allows me to load up tasks the day before, during the evening, and knock them out the next day. I fall short sometimes, but I never forget what needs to be done. I setup lists, and reminders each day.
A system might help keeping you on task is all I'm saying. Just a thought.

this is another one I have on my shelf for when my tension headaches and insomnia get out of control.
unfortunately supplements end up costing more than getting prescription drugs. Just like healthy food costing more than crap food.

I make lists, then promptly either lose them or forget about them. But this goes beyond lists. My head just gets flooded with ideas and thoughts and I can’t make heads or tails of them to the point that I can’t grasp anything to get started with.

when totally stressed and overwhelmed I use my reminders feature on my iPhone.
I tend to have multiple lists.
in the garage I use a large post it whiteboard used for training so I can write projects down.
The key to coping with ADHD is to develop routines and to regiment your day as much as possible.
I use a notepad and make lists and take notes about things I need to do and ideas for how to tackle them. To keep from losing my notepad I have carrying it as part of my EDC routine. When ever I am about to leave tge house, enter or leave my car, enter or leave my truck, enter or leave any store, restaurant or any other location where I have to go I give myself a pat down to ensure I have all my daily carry stuff and that I haven't forgotten or left anything behind. At work I check, recheck and triple check everything to make absolutely sure I haven't forgotten or mistaken anything.
This is what keeps me organized before any outing.
My keys, face masks, coats, flashlight, pocket knife, Bluetooth and wallet are all there. Top bin is for the day's incoming mail. When I come home for the day before I even take off my boots I empty all my pockets of all edc stuff and put it all in/on there. Then I do another pat down to make sure I didn't forget anything. I do this each and evertime I enter and in reverse whenever I leave, every single time. Its routine, I don't even think about it anymore.

Don't procrastinate, putting things off is the creeping oblivion threatening to bury you alive in an ocean of to dos that you won't even remember anything of anymore. Never put off what you can do right now, make a writing note or voice recording
of anything you can't take care of right away. Ask friends and family to not let you forget about this one thing if you have to, ask multiple friends and family if you have to. Use your phone as a day planner, use the calendar to mark down appointments and reminders. Don't ever trust your memory, always write it down.

I work with and have worked with people with ADD/ADHD/Spectrum Disorder. Part of what I do in practice is functional/bioenergetic testing. There really is no diagnostic test medically to diagnose these things. They typically relate to chemical imbalances, neurotransmitter imbalances, etc.. While a supplement can change symptoms I am not a big fan of just treating symptoms even with supplements. Getting to the underlying cause or issue is best. Also, not every supplement is a match for every person regardless of how good of a quality it is. I prefer to have the body choose what it needs and doesn't need and yes, there is a way to accomplish this. I don't mean what kind of supplement, I mean the actual brand/version that best should be used for the given situation. Drugs either stimulate or inhibit, they don't heal. Not saying there is never a time and a place for them but they typically teach you how to live with an problem by getting rid of the symptom. Problem is there is a cause that isn't being corrected by said drug. Just like if your smoke alarm was going off in the middle of the night I wouldn't recommend pulling the battery out and going back to sleep. I am also very particular about what I use personally, for my family and in my practice. Many of what people wind up getting is crap, have excipients, fillers, etc. You wind up having expensive piss.@Dr. Evil surely has additional advice and may be a better or cheaper source of quality supplements that could help.

The thing many people have difficulty getting their heads around is that many of the problems faced by those of us with ADHD, and the strategies to deal with them, are shared by us all.
The difference is the intensity.
If I don't put my stuff on that rack I WILL lose it, evertime. I can put an item down on a table, turn around and never see it again in my life. The mental effort I have to put into staying organized as best I can is such that it seems a physical effort.
It is so much harder to do even the simplest of organizational tasks that I can't even describe.
You see when an ordinary person fails to follow a routine it can result in minor inconvenience. For someone with ADHD it can result in a major catastrophe. There have been many times where I have gotten to work only to realize I have forgotten my wallet, turned back to fetch it, gone back to work again only to realize I have also forgotten my phone. I have locked myself out of houses, rooms, cars and even my work truck, while on the road, more times than I can remember. If I slack off my routines at home even just one time the place becomes a disaster area, clothes and papers and just stuff all over the places in big indecipherable plies. If you give me a peice of paper and I don't immediately file it it will disappear forever in a pile somewhere never to be seen again. Once while traveling by plane with family I placed my boarding pass in a magazine to keep from losing it, forgot where it was and spent over an hour trying to find it, almost missing the flight. I had thrown the magazine away in the garbage you see. My propensity for losing things is really quite abnormal, I literally lose things as soon as I break line of sight with it, its location having never entered into my short term memory.
When I go to the range I must spend at least an hour the previous day getting all the things I need into my range bag and putting it all by the door, if I don't I am guaranteed to forget something. It takes me an hour to.get my range and once I even forgot to bring the ammo. I once broke down the bolt of my M1 Garand to replace the extractor and forgot the firing pin when I reassembled it and didn't find out until I got to that same range. I then promptly lost the firing pin. To this day My M1 sits in the safe, inert without a firing pin.
Its only by highly regimented routines that I am able to function at anything approaching a normal level.
No doubt all these things most people could relate too but for me this type of thing happens every day, throughout the entire day. Dysfunction is the rule, not the exception, to the point it has a negative impact on daily life. People will look down at you, they can't understand why you are always, late, disorganized, disheveled and constantly losing and forgetting everything. People don't want to trust you, they think can't count on you, they start to look on you as they would a child and overlook you.
Regular people just can't understand how overwhelmingly difficult it is for someone with ADHD to achieve some of the simplest things that come naturally to the ordinary person.
It is a daily struggle and it requires constant effort to overcome.

When I get ready for a race, ALWAYS the night before, it takes me a good hour to set everything out (I make a “flat camper” out of all my clothes and gear to visualize it all). And that’s just for a race: shoes, socks, shorts, shirt, watch, hat/visor/bandana, race bin and belt. Not complicated by any means, but I guarantee I’d forget something if I tried prepping in the morning. Once everything is set out, all of the non-clothing items go in a bag next to the door, or even right into the car so I won’t forget it. The clothes get set out so it requires zero thought in the morning.
The thing is there isn't anything that can be done to permanently correct the causative brain chemical imbalances that create ADHD correct? I sure wish there were. What I mean to say is that the underlying issue is out of reach. All we can do is learn how to cope. I look at medication as perhaps something to on while the newly diagnosed ADHD person developes their coping strategies. For me therapy was invaluable to this and it is very unfortunate that the unSAFE is resulting in people not seeking care that could help improve their lives.
As usual the government getting involved has only made things worse.

I disagree. When there is imbalance, that results in malfunction. Malfunction results in a dis-ease process. That results in symptoms. There is a way to work to get the body back into balance. I had a young male patient (14 at the time) who was on the spectrum. Never slept more than 2 hours a night since birth. Imagine the family dynamic with that. Also would never get involved with extended family activities, would get frustrated and not express his emotions, etc.. His parents had been searching for something, anything to make any type of difference his whole life and finally started to have results. His mom wrote a really nice testimonial that I have in my office. Making change and getting results though is a process, not a procedure. There are also things such as diet that can also play a role. Obviously you can't make any guarantees to anyone but I have seen really good changes that are long lasting with people over the years. If there is physical damage like brain trauma, a tumor, etc.. that can be a whole different story though.
It sounds familiar but it isn't the same, trust me.
A non coping ADHD person in your situation would be suffering adverse work performance issues. It wouldn't be a matter of not having a pen, it would be an issue of blowing an important meeting due poor preparation or losing a client due to a poorly prepared presentation.
The level of prep I have to attend to just to successfully drive my truck for the day with everything I need and all the Ts crossed and Is dotted would be like a normal person lawyer getting ready for a Supreme Court case. I have to concentrate on just getting all my stuff into that bin everyday without losing anything. Most people just toss stuff in. I however square myself up to my wall bin, take each time out and once everything.is in there I have to physically point at and touch each item and say its name aloud. I touch my wallet and say "wallet" aloud, touch my flashlight and say "light" aloud. I have to do this for each item and for each time I enter my home or I will lose them.

I am talking about ADHD specifically. From what I understand it is a particular type neurotransmitter re-uptake deficiency, while it can be compensated for with medication I don't belive it can be dealt with holistically. It is a nuts and bolts problem that requires a nuts and bolts solution. As a child I did the whole diet modification thing, as far as I am concerned its quackery, as far as ADHD is concerned. I am not a doctor, but I have lived with, as my therapist put it, a 9 out of 10 on the severity scale case of ADHD for 42 years now and as I was diagnosed in the early 80s when this disorder was a truly unknown thing in the public eye and poorly understood in the medical world I was hauled off to every quack and crackpot that claimed to have some solution. The diet modification thing seemed especially ridiculous to me. Imagine me as a child, already considered an outcast for having to attend some "special ed." classes now having to be sent along to school with increasingly eclectic lunches and snacks.
Medication was the only thing that any positive effect on my scholastic performance. Now I rely my my routines to cope, I am.not taking medication. I think there would be to many hangups for me to maintain my CDL while having a prescription for Adderall or God knows what else they have these days. What with all the drug tests.
