Advice Columnist Suggests Kicking Out Gun Owning Daughter

Ask Amy: My daughter lives with me and owns a gun. Can I kick her out?

I don't know if this Amy person is a nationally syndicated columnist or a just a local one, but the advice absolutely crazy.

Holophobe father says that his otherwise, smart, healthy, hard-working 24-year old daughter who lives with him owns a .40 caliber pistol. You know, the type of gun only a criminal would have (father's words) and has (horror of horros) a hollow-point bullets to go with it! Says he told her to either give up the gun or move out in three weeks and the advice columnist agrees!

If it were my daughter I might chastise her for not getting a 9mm but otherwise I'd be sure we'd go to the range and train together. Hell I might even offer to buy her next one!

I agree 100% with the guy from national review. How on earth could a guy state that he had to lock his door now that his daughter has a gun? Does the gun turn otherwise normal people into homicidal maniacs? Great parenting job if a simple purchase makes a person go from sweet and innocent to potential murderer overnight.

In my opinion, I dont buy this as a valid letter. This is a set up, just to disseminate a little more false information, just to get it in print, and give it a life of its own. I mean come on, “exploding ammunition”. Really.

I’ve given her three choices: She can either give her weapon to me this would be my suggestion so that you could be arrested and charged and then truly be a criminal that possesses such weapons, sell it sure, if you give me no less than double the market value or move out in three weeks. I dont think I'd even let you get the words out before my shit was gone and the double strips of tire marks were still smouldering in the driveway.

I love my daughter and would be so sad for her to move into a place that she would hardly be able to afford, maybe if you were better parents she'd be able to afford her own place at the pubescent age of 24 but now I have to lock my bedroom door at night because I don’t know what she’s going to do. If I were her I'd lock MY bedroom door because obviously you're the irrational and unstable one. I'd she wanted to "do" anything, she'd probably have done it by now and if she was intelligent (unlike you) she'd use a kitchen knife which would be much quieter with the same effect.

What have you done, besides this, to make you think she would want to harm you? and is barely speaking to me. I've never met her but she's clearly intelligent for not listening to your lips flapping. How can I convince her to stop endangering us? You can start by realizing its YOU that's endangering her by somehow thinking the world is a boundless safe space where sugar coated unicorns and fairies dont sprinkle magic love dust on everyone and that there are evil people out there that don't give a damn about you or your daughter. You should be thankful she has taken the initiative on her own to be resourceful enough to learn how to accept a tremendous responsibility and understands how to protect her life, and potentially yours. Wake up, smell the real world, and pull your head out of your liberal, delusional, pusssified ass and stand up for you and your family by making sure it's protected.
