Airsoft as training for real firearms (video proof of concept)

Here is a video that shows a Japanese guy, from Japan, that has only trained with airsoft pistols and airsoft MSRs for 3 years. He has become extremely facile with these "guns." He was brought to the U.S. to try some real pistols and rifles.

Check out how fast he adapts to real calibers. On the rifle, he does really amazing. Most impressive is his malfunction handling. His muscle memory from using airsoft appears to have translated perfectly to standard firearms.

I...am...impressed.

Not only is the dry fire and manual of arms good practice with airsoft, you can also practice patrolling and other tactics.

I'm a big believer in this, and I also practice with my airsoft rifle and Glock 19 replica. Like Will said, all the fire controls and weapon manipulation is the same as a real gun. As well as working on your transitions from Target to Target and between weapons as well.

It's a great way to train if you don't have time to get to the range. It's also a good tool to teach younger shooters and to let them get comfortable.

I have my basement set up as well. I have a system set up so the BB's don't scatter all over the house and I can reuse them. Even though bbs are dirt cheap, makes no sense to throw them out when I have so many of them.
As you said in the other thread, too bad you weren't closer.


I think a lot of people have started getting into it because finding certain airsoft guns online now has become very difficult and they seem to be sold out.

I used to get to my own private shooting range on my parents property once a month, now I'm lucky if I get there three or four times a year. I don't really care for going to Conventional shooting ranges where you're just standing still shooting, so the airsoft training I've been doing is really a great way to kind of scratch that itch, as well as get what I consider to be some good repetitions in for the mechanics and movement with gun handling.

After 15,000+ rounds and 7 years my KSC glock 19 gen 3 airsoft replica has died. This past year I have probably put about 1/2 of that through it. Its time for a replacement. Ive been researching and it seems the Umarex licensed glock replicas are the best bet. Im going to get a gen 4 17 replica this time around.

After 15,000+ rounds and 7 years my KSC glock 19 gen 3 airsoft replica has died. This past year I have probably put about 1/2 of that through it. Its time for a replacement. Ive been researching and it seems the Umarex licensed glock replicas are the best bet. Im going to get a gen 4 17 replica this time around.

I like the plastic bbs over metal as i buy the biodegradable ones, and If I ever end up trying some milsim airsoft I will have the right tools for it.

Highly recommend the plastic airsoft BBS over using Steel BBs for force on force. Just my opinion, you do you though.

Post up more info when available this is very interesting.

I know first hand experience airsoft pellets don't feel good when you get hit especially close ramge but it sounds like a great training idea for a class.

I hear you, I do a ton on my own, but formal training classes are actually a fun day out as well as helping me improve my skills.

On top of that, as much as I enjoy training on my own, it does get boring sometimes so training with like-minded individuals adds to the experience.

Training on my own is largely things Ive learned from classes or YT. But I always learn something new in class, for instance, my last class with you taught me something new about gripping the pistol, thumbs up.
