Valid point, but theres no way he shouldn't have checked that gun if they were using it for target practice recently, It was a real gun , and in no way should he have fired it at the crew.

Hollywood weapons expert Bryan Carpenter talked to the Post and stressed that the No. 1 rule for prop firearms is: “Loaded or unloaded, a weapon never gets pointed at another human being.”

He noted that rules of gun safety apply even on a movie set, where “you never let the muzzle of a weapon cover something you don’t intend to destroy.”

Outlets in the United States are temporarily banned from reporting on Baldwin’s arrest. Baldwin is said to have killed the cinematographer and attempted to kill the director, Joel Souza in a dispute over payment.

Baldwin tried to make it appear like it was an accident, but further investigation revealed it was anything but. According to the Los Angeles Times:

Hours before actor Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer on the New Mexico set of “Rust” with a prop gun, a half-dozen camera crew workers walked off the set to protest working conditions.

The camera operators and their assistants were frustrated by the conditions surrounding the low-budget film, including complaints about long hours, long commutes, and collecting their paychecks, according to three people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment,

Safety protocols standards in the industry, including gun inspections, were not strictly followed on the “Rust” set near Santa Fe, the sources said. They said at least one of the camera operators complained last weekend to a production manager about gun safety on the set.

When Baldwin was arrested at his hotel, he was found with over 1,000 images of child pornography on his phone and laptop. He faces multiple felony charges.

If it's real, and being covered up to that magnitude we are worse off than I thought.

do they all need pistol permits to touch a real pistol like NY ?

But according to a knowledgeable production source, Hutchins’ death was avoidable, as they told The Daily Beast that within the past week there had been at least two previous incidents of firearms being misfired on set. The Los Angeles Times reported there was an additional misfiring the previous week.

“They had two negligent discharges on the same set, on the same day and still had jobs,” the source told The Daily Beast, clarifying same-day misfirings occurred on Saturday. “They had struck out twice and were given a third opportunity.”

There was an apparent distinct lack of training and professionalism among this movie production cast and crew.

If you reviewed the firearms training received by principle actors in the "John Wick" movies, you'd see real training. Those actors could shoot safely and were able to handle reloads and malfunctions. I'm sure that Reeves always knew the status of his firearm. Heck...in one of the John Wick movies when Reeves was firing blanks, he had a misfire and actually fluidly performed a tap-rack.

It doesn't matter what someone tells you is the status of a firearm that they hand to you. If you are on the range, at a course, or are an actor in a scene with firearms, you must personally verify the status of that firearm.

In this case, it appears that lack of training killed an innocent woman.
