They ask at purchase name and occupation . I respond Jack Mehoff , Onlyfans .Sorry... Resurrecting of an old thread here.
What are the latest and greatest ammo purchase laws here in the great state of New York? I did an interweb search and wasn't coming up with much for current 2023 info. I plan to get some 9mm and .308 and curious as to what kind of barricades chatty Kathy has put up, as she looks out for our best interests of course. Is it just name and address type info or does it now include a background check? Thanks (o:
Has NY created a system for such background checks ? NICS is a no go correct ?I remember it being an actual background check starting 4/23, but who know if that will happen.
I'm certain that BATFE announced a newly revised 4473 which allows for Ammunition checks, and while currently available for Dealer use, they won't be mandatory until April 2023.Has NY created a system for such background checks ? NICS is a no go correct ?
April 1st ? Those little jokesters !I'm certain that BATFE announced a newly revised 4473 which allows for Ammunition checks, and while currently available for Dealer use, they won't be mandatory until April 2023.
If you are in with an FFL ask they how they handle online orders. Most charge like 5 bucks and its a simple handoff. There is no paper trail, so unless the NY State Gestapo is there to witness a hand off, then all should be well. Of course they may big brother you and track down where you bought the ammo and where it was shipped to. Its not like this is Communist China....o waitSorry... Resurrecting of an old thread here.

There’s a paper trail and the FFL/ammo seller is mandated to record name, address, occupation, caliber, amount purchased and any unique amm identification markers. If you are in with an FFL ask they how they handle online orders. For the FFL? I suppose there would be with a shipping label. I won't find out...between reloading and having bulk ammo drop shipped to an out of state friend..I won't be playing their game. There’s a paper trail and the FFL/ammo seller is mandated to record name, address, occupation, caliber, amount purchased and any unique amm identification markers.
Form 4473 has been revised and goes into effect in April (although it can be used now) and does include Ammunition,*Has NY created a system for such background checks ? NICS is a no go correct ?
So there is a possibility of throttling or non-Legislated "Waiting Period" by Administrative default...That will not do!Just wait for the delays. Oregon state police do the background checks and they are so understaffed they usually have a backlog of 2-5 thousand background checks to do. People wait 2-4 weeks to get their guns.
The fee to the NYS police is $10 per check from what I understand. I’m sure the FFL will charge more than the regular fee for this as well so instead for $10 for an FFL to transfer ammo I’ll bet you’re looking at $45-$50 now. $10 for the NYSP and the rest for the FFL. It’s been $25-30 for NICS checks around me and I’ll bet all this fooling around now they will add a few bucks. I can’t wait for the fudds heads to explode when they buy their 5 slugs or flat of skeet shooting shells and they get whacked.Form 4473 has been revised and goes into effect in April (although it can be used now) and does include Ammunition,*

Also in April the State Police are to become the point of contact for NICS Checks, taking it from the FBI in Atlanta...The shoe I'm waiting to drop is the necessity to charge an arbitrary and undisclosed "fee" for said check...Any Sworn Officer via Dispatch or even in-vehicle computer access can check a person's identity and eligibility in little more time than it takes to type in the name and read the boxes, but the Legislators will decide all that effort requires revenues that it can use for vote buying pork....just wait and see!
I just went and read the actual form and it adds "ammunition" to the 21 (b) and (c):
"Do you intend to purchase or acquire any firearm listed on this form and any continuation sheet(s), or ammunition, for sale or other disposition to any person described in questions 21(c)-(m), or to a person described in question 21.n.1 who does not fall within a nonimmigrant alien exception?"
". Do you intend to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm listed on this form and any continuation sheet(s) or ammunition in furtherance of any felony or other offense punishable by imprisonment for a term of more than one year, a Federal crime of terrorism, or a drug trafficking offense?"
I thought from the ATF Notification that Ammunition was now going to be part of Block 24, but it is not.
That won’t do? Really what can or will be done about it? After all it’s for the children. They have already gotten away with the 30 day delay so why not a few weeks? This state is so fucked beyond belief it’s not even funny. So there is a possibility of throttling or non-Legislated "Waiting Period" by Administrative default...That will not do!
The Section of the State Police designated to process NYSP Form P-12 (all handguns coming in or going out from Licensed Dealers) is three or more years behind in processing those certificates and has been for decades! I don't know if the same bureaucracy processes the Recertifications of Handgun Licensees is any better than the one doing the P-12's or not,
Wtf ! Several months ago I added semi auto rifle to my pp and was charged $20 in Oneida Co. Was there a charge for that tag as well? That must be new for Oneida County, Got my Semi stamp on my License couple months ago. No word of any tag.
He put "tag" so I wonder if he just meant that it is just the addition of the semi-auto designation added to the permit.Wtf ! Several months ago I added semi auto rifle to my pp and was charged $20 in Oneida Co. Was there a charge for that tag as well?
Just curious how your LGS knows this? This has been the rumor since the safe act passed and so far it’s held true but I have heard things about secret money on budgets for a while now. I didn’t pull 4/23 out my ass and neither did NYS. I’m not saying it will happen but I’ll bet it will be sooner than later unless she doesn’t want it to happen. Remember she said it would reduce gun crimes by 22% so she’s betting on ammo background checks big time. That's what I meant.. a designation for semi purchases-- tag, label, designation...no record of semi rifle purchases is added to your PP at this time. It does cost $20 to be a legal, semi owning maniac now.
LGS says that the State Police have not got the personnel or budget, to setup a NICS check system on ammo or guns, any time soon....maybe in 3 years maybe.
Next, 80% may demand an annual inventory of all guns, ammo, clubs, knives, kitchen knives, baseball bats, mace, bear spray, cans of insecticide, possessed in NYS that might be used on a home invader, and potentially hurt them badly.
