Is there any background check now required for purchasers of ammunition?​

Not yet. The law provides that background check requirements imposed on all retail sellers of ammunition are scheduled to take effect on September 13, 2023.

It’s supposed to happen, and there have been positions created, hired and staffed by the NYSP for this purpose. Looks like it’s gonna happen this time. I have an email out to our Senator for clarification. I’ll post back his (staffer’s) canned response as soon as I get it. Not too hopeful.

At the first exit in PA of the NYS Thruway / I-90 for the town of North East, PA, there are a number of abandoned buildings that were used for years as bullshit Tour Operators trying to sell tours and hotels to unsuspecting tourists heading to N. Falls, and to get their money before they actually got up there.

Any one of those buildings would be perfect to set up a shop selling ammo. For those in WNY, you could easily make it a day trip, - stop off and load up on ammo; maybe go by the Erie, PA Sheriff's office downtown and pick up your PA CCW quickly for $20.00 cash if you need one; and maybe go to Presque Isle State Park with the family to enjoy a day at the beach.

FUKH and your fellow ilk. I would bet that she would order the purple tie squad to spy on customers with NY tags. Easy enough to set up an inside drive through to prevent prying eyes, and to rebox any ammo before leaving and driving back to New Yorkistan.

First off, companies are not shipping to NY. Many not to an FFL. I tried to get some ammo for a customer yesterday from Optics Planet. Nope, not shipping at all to NY. My wholesalers do a good job but there are still many calibers/gauges not readily available.

Inspections of shops by NYSP have started. I am still trying to find out answers to a pile of questions. According to the NYS Site, an FFl does not need to be in compliance until Jan 2024. WTH knows. Some of the crap that is on the checklist is going to cost some bucks to comply. There are some severe constitutional issues in some of the "requirements", like having audio recording in the shop. Full video records kept for two years and monitored by an outside agency. Do you see the potential for abuse here? I won't go into it as I have been really concerned for over a year about this stuff. I also get a fair number of people whose only response is along the lines of "they cannot do that". I sometimes want to say some very unladylike things. Sometimes I do.

I am logging info on ammo. I tell customers if the Second Circuit Court EVER rules on a stay, I will burn the records if they actually do what SHOULD be done. I do NOT believe the ammo law is Constitutional. Period. Full STOP.

I have no details on the full background check. In reading the law, I think customers are going to be waiting. I believe the "law" has a fee of $10.00.
I have been on this board and my FB page trying to tell people this could shape up to be an absolute cluster****. I know many people who will NEVER buy a round of ammo in this state.

ETA, the enhanced backgound check is runing over two weeks. The few times I get a "Deny" (for anyone) it has gone to the Sheriff's Dept. I do not know what other info goes.

I agree, just the time and paperwork is stupid. I feel like a broken record, as I have been saying this to customers for months. I think I am done. So many have their heads in the sand, or another dark place. The other side is the frustration, no one really knows what to do as it is so blazenly WRONG.

That's something those fuckers in Albany want to see happen. While I absolutely feel for you guys, - my fellow gun owners back there in New Yorkistan, I am subject to no such restrictions here in the Carolinas (you know the old expression: Nothin could be finer than bein in the Carolinas...)

I can order whatever I want, and if I want something immediately, there is a Cabela's literally just up the road about 1 mile away. Just off I-77 @ Carowinds Blvd in Ft. Mill, SC.

Hopefully, that unconstitutional shit gets tossed someday. When it does, I will be loudly cheering right along with you all.

I haven't bought a handgun here in SC yet, so not certain about it in SC, but in NC, if you have an NC CCW permit, you can walk in, buy a handgun, and walk out with it without a background check being required.

I have not, nor will I buy another round of ammunition in this F■■■ed - up State since this bullshit started. I'm sorry to those dealers that I no longer give my business to, but I will happily buy reloading components from you. At least until this horseshit starts being applied to them too.
