Ammo for HK VP9?

Just picked up a HK VP9 and I was wondering what people use for their home defense/carry ammo?

I use Hornady Critical Defense in my Sig P320 XCompact, but I hear that ammo isn’t ideal for the VP9 as it has a longer barrel.

There is only a .4" difference in barrel length between a P320 Compact and a full size VP9. That isn't enough to make an appreciable difference. If you already have a stock of the Critical Defense and you like that round I would run it in the VP9 as well. Two caveats:

1- Do your 100 round shakedown to ensure your VP9 cycles that ammo reliably.

2- Make note of your point of impact and see if it matches your point of aim. If there is a significant discrepancy between where you aim and where you hit then consider trying other ammunition where your POI and POA coincide.

As for alternative load suggestions- I myself am partial the the Federal HST which seem to have very consistent performance across a wide range of variables.
Any modern bonded hollow point is likely to serve however. Gold Dots, Golden Saber (bonded version) and V Crown are all proven loads and there are plenty others. It's more about what a particular gun likes best.

I mainly use 115 and 124 grain ball in my VP9

Different brands of ammo, even of the same bullet weight, type and pressure can have significant differences in POI. This can be true between even guns of the same make and model
