I guess I am slow at math because all I had was about 30 minutes for dinner and an hour for one show. Yet, the inventory time I gave did not include my time outs for dinner and The Walking Dead. It was 5.5 hours of inventory. My inventory does not merely count how many rounds I have in store. It is a bit more complicated than kindergarten counting, maybe not much more complicated but it does entail getting, or confirming, a lot more information that a mere count. For example here is a partial inventory of my 22WMR:

I highlight (could not figure how to do that here so changed font color for the example) each specific type of round in yellow to confirm I counted and inspected it. Next year, I will remove the highlight as I inventory each specific type of ammo. I inspect the ammo too. Not each round of course but a small sample of each to look for problems mostly like corrosion and boxes that may smell moldy which would clue me into maybe needing a new ammo can with a better seal although this is more likely a potential problem with the ammo in my footlocker. If newly acquired boxes are not marked yet with year of purchase, then I mark them too. I also usually, but not for all the ammo, break them into separate sections, not merely separate lines, for JHP and FMJ.
It takes a bit more time than you believe it would take you to go through 17 different calibers of rounds that way. Funny thing is that I am almost a total mess in other aspects of my life but I will be damned if I do not keep good records on my ammo and firearms.

Yeah, I can't afford to shoot that much a day. Probably never, but I guess it's a goal to set.
I went shooting yesterday afternoon, ending up shooting nearly 700 rounds all together.

There are a few reasons to keep a good inventory:
1. In the event of the Great Zombie Apocalypse, I will know which rounds are oldest and thus which to use first.
2. Knowing how old they are, during more or less non-Zombie Apocalypse times, aids in rotation - knowing when to get rid of the old and replace with new. This may come in handy for my son (hopefully in not too soon a time) when he inherits my ammo.
3. The reason for knowing the weights of the bullets should be obvious but if it is not, let's just say that certain bullet weights can and often do have different applications.
4. Knowing the type of bullet, such as Soft Point, Semi-Jacketed Hollow Point, Full Metal Jacket, Light Armor piercing - same reasoning as number 3.
5. Knowledge of who was the manufacturer is similar to 3 & 4, also very handy to know, along with all the other info, in case their is a recall. In addition, some companies make decent ammo, some make good stuff, some make better stuff and some excellent. Helps one have an idea of the quality of each and the quantity of each to break it down that way. It is also very handy to know all this info when selling or trading ammo.
6. The info in the notes is just some additional identifying data if I am looking for something in particular or info about particular characteristic s of the ammo - possibly such as shell case material being steel or brass.
7. A very anal inventory is a courtesy to the storm troopers when and if they ever seize all of my ammo. It will make it easier for them to inventory it.
8. The storm troopers may be duped into believing they got it all.
For the OP it definitely would be bragging rights.
On a serious note it makes sense to keep track of how much you have to shoot with and when it is time to reorder.
I keep a rough inventory of what I have for purchasing. If I head out to the store, no need to look at what I need. I glance at a piece of paper and I am good to go.

Oh, I forgot the two other reasons to do such a 'meticulous' ammo inventory:
It makes me feel rich even though, instead of silver & gold, it is mostly brass (or steel) and lead. Still, I think I feel like a pirate captain must have felt when counting and categorizing his stash of loot.
The other reason is the wife. When she sees me doing that she apparently thinks it is something important and leaves me alone. In other words se does not tell me I have other chores to do.
