Didn't anyone learn anything in 1999 and the Y2K panic? AR owners picked up on ammo purchasing during the Clinton era and the 94 AW ban that affected those specific firearm areas. But 1999 was the milestone notable time when there was a run on everything. Since then we've been through the great .22 shortage, the Barry O'Bama panic the powder and component shortage.............

Those Wolf 100gr bi-metal are quite adequate. And cheap. I think the last case I bought was delivered for $0.23 per.

That was a good price. I bought extra a few weeks ago and the cheapest I found was $0.27 per round. Just looked and best I can find is $0.45 per round for steel case. Some places are over $0.50. Wish I'd bought more than I did then.

I have, a little over 7 years ago. Nothing to be had here in NY. Went to TX for vaca, stopped in Dallas/Ft. Worth Cabelas, had anything you wanted. With the wife's blessing, loaded up the shopping cart. Lady at the register never batted an eyelash.

Thanks Pod. At 60 years old, memories start to get blurry. I had forgotten about that particular gun/ammo shortage, Gander Cicero was wiped out of everything. Then a year or two later, the .22LR shortage. Wow.

I stopped in at a gun shop the next town over hoping to pick up some small rifle primers and he had none, said he could get none, and went on a bit of a rant, same with popular ammo for hand guns, guns in general, and even related a few stories about the panic buyers that showed up at his store. Kind of funny and sad at the same time.

The AWB must have been a total shit show. I think I was in 7th grade at the time and had not yet developed a love of firearms, not being from a family that was into firearms, so none ofnitnreally registered with me. I can imagine though, after SAFE act passed I felt raped, horrible pit in my stomach. I had to leave NY to feel right again.

I remember that too, but I recall that the expensive stuff like defensive ammo and the boutique ammo was still on the shelf. Yesterday they were stripped bare. Now's as good a time as any to start reloading. I've got primers and brass just need to get some bullets and powder.

I reload, for some. Don't have a .308 Win die set yet, just got the rifle last fall. Primers are in very short supply.

Depends on what you mean by stabilize. During the last hoarding episode loaded ammo became more available before components but prices for ammo took longer to drop.

Ammo companies are volume customers. They're buying powder and primers by the ton, for huge runs of the top 10. They're gonna get fed first. Competitive shooters with a lot of industry connections will make out too. Takes awhile for the "trickle down" effect to reach the store shelves for the little guy.

I will say that with enough searching online I can generally find what I am looking for, as in specific brands and loads (I'm picky) just at inflated prices.
Unfortunately NYers don't have the luxury of online choice.

You def have more choices of online ammo retailers. I've never had a problem with reloading components tho.

I've looked into reloading a while ago and I don't remember how much 115gr fmj bullets were going for before all this crap. Can someone tell me what a good or typical cost per bullet was let's say 6 months ago? Just bullets, not whole cartridges. Thanks.

Me too. I was cleaning the garage on Friday and I found a case of 223 and a case oof 7.62x39. The bill from the shipper was on the box. I paid half of what they are getting today.
