Ammo storage cans ONE YEAR experiment at the bottom of a muddy pond!

He needed to do all that to notice the cover is not sealed all around? On mine it is and it will be as good or better as steel cans if I need to store ammo in it. My ammo is sitting on a shelf. I reload, so I don't need to store much.

Those steel ammo cans rust outside but they are pretty tight.
If you have those and want to stop/slow rust close them, clean them with alcohol
and spray them with clear coat when they are brand new. They will last for ever.
just make sure you do not spray where the gasket seal is. Can actually take them out
and put them back on.

also if one is going to put things under water like that buy some pvc pipe and the end caps.
There are ends threaded with removable caps and those you can put under water for 50 years and things will be the same way when you put them away. I would just make sure there is no moisture trapped
inside from the environment so one might keep things is a very dry place and add a silica bag
before hermetically closing.

the plastic can will work fine for LONG TERM STORAGE. remove the rubber gasket, fill the gasket groove with a small dab of silicone, close and let dry for 72 hours, throw them where ever you want.

Why not fill the whole thing up with sillicone? Just smoosh in whatever you want to store and it'll last forever!
