Another new pistol Red dot.. Trijicon SRO

Looks like Trijicon is going to be offering a new line of Pistol red dots along side the Gold standard RMR

Th SRO is going to have a larger window and a more "traditional" rounded shape.

Optics planet has these listed for pre order at around $490 I believe and have a 1moa, 2moa and 5moa dot, and has the same footprint as the RMR (looks large but also looks about the same width as the DPP)

So to me it looks like a DPP with a longer hood and a protective rubber coating and I kinda like it, and the field of view is crazy big.

Plus the battery is on top which means not losing zero when you change batteries once every 2 or 3 years.

Downside is looks like it doesnt work with irons forward buttttt I'm ok with that given all the other positives

Oh also yes that Tricar is sexy, all these competition 2011s are so fucking nice looking.

I keep trying to tell myself if I get into competition more than super casually I want to save up for a CZ TSO but then I keep seeing these crazy nice looking 2011s and cant make up my mind lol

I think they did try some but the smaller view window wasn't desirable.

When you get a window that small its becomes difficult to find the dot, especially with the housing taking up so much of the view.

In all honesty this doesnt seem all that large when compared to other optics.

And above is the new SRO from Trijicon obviously. Not much of a difference in size but offeres an insane amount more in field of view

The fact that they kept the same overall footprint the same as the RMR was incredibly smart (over on IG the owner of primary machine, awesome guy, awesome company, was bitching that it should have the same footprint as the DPP, yet most people have RMR millings, most companies, his included, mill for the RMR.. why change the footprint if they dont have to and already have the most common one)

This is how I see things. With a red dot on a pistol, you have to find the square or circle (housing) and then the dot.

With regular sights like mine above, you are doing the same thing but in reverse. You find the dot first, and then the square. (Notch)

They both have pluses and minuses.

That's not at all how dots work..

With red dots you focus on the threat and do standard fundamentals and superimpose the dot on the target.

I used to as well. Tried focusing on the target and got better. I can't do it with both died open so it's one eye closed for me.

It's about the same price as their RMR, which depending on which model (like the RM06, 3.25 moa) does sell out from time to time.

I know one dealer who 2 weeks ago couldnt get the RM06 because his distributors were all sold out, but he could get the RM07 (6.5moa)

Without glass and some area around the dot there is no way to zero. What I envision is a red dot about the size of a dime at the very front of the site. Of course it would have to be very rugged. Something that wouldn't need a dramatically different holster than for the stock pistol. That's the part I can't get over. Holstering a gun like that. Until then I see red dots more for just competition shooting.

I can tell you holstering is no different that a normal pistol. The part of the pistol that the dot is mounted on is usually out of the holster anyways(well most of it). If you look and the same holster for the same gun, one for a red dot and one without. Its actually barely cut down and sometimes you would need to measure it to tell the difference. The added bulk seems like it would be a big deal but I can tell you it's really not.
