Any .243 fans?

What bullets do you use for deer? What's a reasonable effective range so the bullet retains enough energy for taking deer?

All I know is they do a helluva number on water jugs at 100 yards.

I have a Ruger Mark2 VT in .243. I found the best accuracy was with the lighter 55 or 58gn bullets. I'm not sure if the twist is the same as a deer rifle. With deer i would try the 105's.

Never shot deer with one but as a teen I would come home every night from school and grab dads Rem 788 in 243,jump on the three wheeler and go shoot woodchucks. Love that rifle,one of the best shooters we had.Shes getting a little tired now but I think she has a few more kills left in her.

80gr or 100 gr, inside 400 yards you're safely in range for a humane kill.

Not mine ! I guess it depends on what type of ammo is used but none the less 243 is very affective round

100 grain bullet. It retains killing power because of its velocity. Hit them where your supposed to and they go down quick. Limited recoil. Great gun for kids.

An 80 grain or 100 grain bullet is packing 1000+ ft-pds of energy even at 400 yards, more than enough for whitetail.

Other than being a barrel burner, the .243 is a very friendly and effective cartridge as long as you use it within limitations.
