Any chance pistol permits won't be delayed because of COVID-19?

Just turned in my application a couple weeks ago in Albany County. Haven't gotten any calls yet. I hear 8 to 12 months is what it usually takes here. With everything being shutdown cause of coronavirus will it now be longer? Since no trials are happening seems like it would be a good time for judges to catch up on some things they've been putting off.

Many towns in MA are completely ignoring the permit process due to the "virus epidemic." I would expect Alb. to follow suit.

my county offices for building permits are shut down. I can accurately ASSUME PPs are as well.

All Firearm Applications have been declared to possibly contain COVID-19 on their surfaces, and have been incinerated in the interest of protecting the clerks who would handle them.

As for states if local gov broadly decreases its activities it will certainly have an impact on applications.

This is what I'm worried about happening here. Cuomo has "expanded" power now, I could see him using it to pass his gun control law wishlist. Even if it is temporary.

It would have to be a nation wide event for cumo's pipe dream to come true. Not saying it can't happen......

There was a city whose Mayor ordered no gun or ammo sales by executive order. Might have been in Michigan or something I forget.

I believe we are referring to the same city. It took to much heat on the subject and the guns and ammo ban wer dropped.

Anything that can be done to keep pistols out of the hands of “common citizens” for as long as possible is normal operating procedure for NY. Go to the range and at look how many people have pistols. Not many. A pistol is almost a thing of legend in this state. That is also a good reason why you don’t need to worry so much about “printing”. People never expect anyone to have a pistol, especially on their person in this state, unless you are a police officer. They are too dangerous and we are not to be trusted with them.

Yes you can get a permit eventually but my post was about how they make it as hard and discouraging as possible. Just because they'll give you a permit doesn't mean they want to.

You're just in the wrong county. Most upstate counties don't "want to deny" you.

Then why the whole production with the bullshit process? They can do a background check and issue the permit on the spot if they wanted. Just like PA. Not even a reference needed. It could be a 10 minute process. It is designed to discourage people from applying.

The county sets the permit process. All the state law says is you need to be investigated prior to the permit being issued, so yeah, it is your county.

I've been waiting 4 months on mine in Warren county (One of the better & quicker counties is what I am told).. None of my references have been called, mental health check has been complete along with everything else. Seems like they're dragging their feet because they can. In the mean time my girlfriends references all received the reference letters and she applied 2 months after I did. They've had my reference letters for about 2 months now..

Also, My local walmart is refusing to sell ammo. Just an FYI as bans were discussed higher in the post.

"My manager will not allow us to sell ammo at this time, sorry". I was just trying to pick up some .22's for plinking without reaching into my stock...
