Any Interest in a Tac Med class from Buffalo members?

I just wanted to gauge interest from any members in the WNY area in a tactical medicine course with EMS Tactical Group. It would be a 16 hr class (2 days), date and venue are TBD based on commitment. If you can make holes, you should probably know how to fill them too. Course description below.

Empowered and trained community members can serve a critical role as First Care Providers (FCP) during the initial moments after complex and dynamic disasters. These FCPs often have immediate access to severely injured victims and can provide time sensitive, life saving interventions; the FCP is the first link in the trauma chain of survival.
This course covers topics designed to decrease preventable death in a dynamic mass casualty situation.

At the core of the Civilian-1st care TECC program are two distinct phases. The phases are as follows:

• Direct Threat Care
  
  
• Care that is rendered while under attack or in adverse conditions.
  

• Indirect Threat Care
  
  
• Care that is rendered while the threat has been suppressed, but may resurface at any point.
  

Civilian 1st care TECC focuses on the medicine during these phases of care and provides guidelines for managing trauma in the civilian tactical or hazardous environment. Unlike other variants of TECC, this program concentrates on civilian interventions, and eliminates the extensive field and evacuation care segments taught in the more advanced programs. While TECC has a tactical slant, it takes an all-hazards approach to providing care outside the normal comfort zone of most members of the general public. This program is useful for everyday emergencies, or more severe incidents such as responding to a mass casualty or Civilian, Public, Mass, Shooting, (CPMS).

Rochester Personal Defense does host EMS Tactical Group and yes they do offer this class there. I was gauging interest from those in the Buffalo/Southern Tier areas that dont want to/cant drive out to Rochester for a 2 day class.

Yes we have a class called Stay In The Fight. Most beneficial class, most needed class if you carry a gun. Also our lowest attended class. Go figure.

This class was awesome. I took it a while back. It is a real eye opener. They go over one hand manipulations, application of a tourniquet and different types of tourniquets. You don’t realize how much stress one can induce with a spray bottle of simulated blood. You don’t realize how much dexterity you can loose when your hands are sticky with simulated blood. Being a LEO, this class is a class I wish I had found years ago. I got a chance to try out my new tourniquet pouch on my rig that day along with my ankle med kit and my Benchmade rescue hook. It really gives you a chance to shake out some of your medical gear and see if your set up is actually practical. Take this class before even considering a high speed low drag carbine class. This class is where it’s at. Ben is right too. It has a very low attendance rate but it should be the most attended class.
