Well obviously they won’t issue me 7.62Please, please, please make this statement and be insistent upon it at Basic. If you're convincing enough I have *no doubt* they will issue you something in 7.62 or "better".

You’re over thinking it, everyone has a 223/556, people will grab those off the shelves in seconds! Hoard them! And just how much 6.8SPC and 7.62x39 do you see on shelves now compared to 223/5.56

You should study then. With the same type of bullet, FMJ, 7.62x39 is known to penetrate barriers better but creates pinhole wounds in a body since they don't fragment where as 5.56mm's don't do as well through harder barriers but they fragment in a body causing a larger wound.I call bullshit.
Caution: on topic post follows!
If it isn't terribly expensive, it works, it doesn't interfere with sights, etc., I see no reason why you wouldn't want one of these. What's the con (other than more doohickies and geegaws on your receiver)? If I had a mini and you gave me one I certainly wouldn't just throw it in a drawer.
Why would you want to reload that way? Just drop the mag and pop in a new one. It's the way the gun was designed to work.
