Interesting question. Since the largest use of the Bofors was on naval warships I imagine that the vast majority of the 40mm projectiles fell back to the ocean harmlessly. However the must be at least some instances of anti aircraft fire causing harm as it fell back to the earth. Could make for some fascinating research.

Searched around for armor penetration figures for the AP round. Didn't find anything that cited sources but found figures that listed penetration against homogeneous steel armor, assuming impact at a 90° angle, ranging from 60mm at 100 yards to 27mm at 2,000 yards. This thing would make mincemeat of AFWs like the Striker or M2 Bradley. To say nothing of it's more powerful 40mm successor the L/70 Bofors. Giving the role this weapon was used for AP ammunition is probably very rare.
