Anyone have an alien gear shapeshift holster

I have the alien gear IWB holster, but want to take a few more pistol classes. I’d like a little more “combat readiness” and to tighten my pistol groups up. They all of course recommended an OWB holster and instead os spending whatever on one of them thought about just buying the shapeshifter kit. It’s likely I will use the iwb mostly, but the other stuff here and there. Not sure if it’s worth it or the hassle of converting the system here and there.

What say you folks.

I recently bought one, and returned it. IMHO it's more gimmick than anything. Do yourself a favor and buy a couple of real holsters, one for IWB one of OWB.

My wife has the shapeshifter kit. It work but wouldn’t be my first pick with my limited experience. I like my comp-tac holsters.

I don't own one but it looks to be to much . to many small fiddly parts and it looks like it adds bulk to the holster. If you carry iwb train iwb. If you want to carry owb get a dedicated holster.

I owned an Alien Gear holster for ONE DAY. It was garbage.
Yes, Blackpoint Tactical costs more. (perish the thought of actually having to spend money on gear!!!) So does Raven Concealment, Stealth Gear USA, Black Center Tactical, C&G Holsters, but all those companies make QUALITY products for the price you pay. That's the secret. You get what you pay for.

Buy Fobus, Alien Gear, Blackhawk Serpa, you get Fobus, Alien Gear, Blackhawk Serpa quality, (what little there is!)

I have one of the original Alien Gear IWB holsters and like it, it's comfortable and does it's job well. I also bought a Safariland ALS for when I carry OWB. No need for me to buy others.

Comp tac for g17 on the left, alien gear for g43 on right. The comp tac feels solid, the alien gear feels cheaper. My wife has no complaints so far with the alien gear but I don’t think I will order another one

A of of this is subjective. What works for you and your body type may not work for others. Try a few , keep what you like, and accept a loss on the ones you bought and don't like. Holsters are like 9mm VS 45. Get what works for you, your body type, your clothing and your preference.

It’s for a Springfield xd 2.0 in my avatar. I have an alien gear IWB and like it. It’s fine and works for me. I thought the cloak tuck seemed very gimmicky.

So if you already have a "holster" that you are happy with for carry, why spend $100 on another holster that can be mediocre at best at a bunch of different carry methods instead of spending less money for a legit dedicated dont get laughed at OWB like the ones listed

Generally I will only buy a holster if I can run it concealed. That's how I carry, that's how I train, that's how I teach.

Completely agree, I think the only owb holster I own was dont a g17 back when I wanted to start doing competition that I never got around to.

I'd be skeptical of the classes that say you need to run an owb holster and see if it's really going to give you the skill set you are looking for (***directed at OP***)

whats the purpose of taking the class? Is it to learn a skill set that might one day save your life out in the "streets", or is it to have fun and shoot up all the shit?
Even with carbine classes, minimal gear, mags stuffed into pockets.

Oh no dont get me wrong I'm all for any and all classes, but it sounds like OP wants to take a more militsry/leo driven type class in an effort to shoot tighter groups (which cool probably learn some other cool shit as well) but no need to carry any different than you would daily, hell it would be better to carry how you normally would and have that all transition in how you carry

You don't need to take "military/leo driven type classes" to shoot tighter groups. Just get good consistent training and practice what you learn in the class. Miltary and LE tactics are cool, but the rules are different for them than they are for civilians.
Find a good instructor, with a good reputation (there are quite a few in the NY area) and practice what you learned in class.
Good piece of gear to bring to classes? Pad and pen. Take notes. Document your progress.

I run an ALS holster for 3 gun. I bought it for the locking mechanism. I have never “dropped” a pistol out of my holster, but i have seen it happen so much i took the insurance of the lock. Moat of the time it is an outward force that doslodges the pistol. Crawling, hooking on objects, rifle sling pulles out pistol. etc etc.

I like owb holsters. More comfy. I use one for my “CCW” at times.

I try to take a different training class every 1-2 years. I take the good and leave the bad.

Yes I carry IWB about 3-4 o’clock with an alien gear IWB holster. I like the holster and has served me well for about 3 years now. I wear a Bigfoot gun belt every day and won’t be wearing anything else, but that belt daily or for the training class. I throw 2 spare mags in my back pocket.

There are unfortunately only about 3-4 trainers around me that offer live fire. I agree and would like to train with my daily gear and how I carry, but figure any training is better than no training. I don’t care about the cost of the training and if I learn one good thing it’s worth it.

To each thier own and maybe I’ll try one of those brands of holsters and be amazed. I’ve heard lots of good things about alien gear holsters from many people on this forum and off. Are there better holsters probably.

Just look at different holsters and read reviews if you cannot hold them.
Ive stopped giving opinions on holsters.
You can ask 20 "experts" and get 21 recommendations.
Ive got holster that range from $10 Blackhawks, to $120 Galco and my AG 2nd gen is by far the most comfortable and easiest to draw and re-holster.
Ive heard they wear out quick but Ive had mine for 4 years. I use it over 300 days a year, all day and its like new. Ive seen the same holster fall apart in less than a year.
Ive also seen $150 custom leather holsters fall apart.
Find what works and use it.
