Anyone in Rensselaer County have an AR-15 pistol on their permit?

I just got off the phone with Charlie and he says he doesn't think my Judge would sign an amendment for AR15 fixed mag pistol.
My Judge and Charlie have been excellent to me so if he won't then he won't. Doesn't hurt to ask!

So no issue getting a judge to sign off? Apparently my judge who has been great with everything else said he doesnt want to get involved with that. I just want to know how many people have them in case I do get to talk with him

Not sure how your amendments work, but in erie county the permit office wants to see your ffl receipt with make, model, sn, caliber, and action. Ar15 is not listed anywhere on it. You can't use "multi" for caliber, it needs to be 556, 300blk or whatever.
I have one and it was no problem as long as the receipt has the required information. AR is never even brought up, but if it was you would need to make sure they know it's fixed mag, thereby the features and weight limit don't apply.

I did Stag as the maker, Pistol as the model and .223/5.56 as the caliber. Receipt said fixed mag and 7.5" barrel. Judge wasn't interested in allowing me to have it on my permit so far
Sadly if the judge won't do it you're probably finished, even though it's perfectly in accordance with safe. Wonder if they'd feel better knowing it was a single shot, and change to fixed mag after?

I'm Rensselaer county as well, and I know there would be no way my judge would sign an amendment for an AR pistol. I worry about him signing for another semi auto pistol for that matter, lol. Not really funny though.

The county permit guy called the gun shop. I didn't discuss with the guy anything other than what the receipt said. Which was manufacturer Stag Model Pistol, semi auto fixed mag, 7.5" barrel and .223/5.56 That info is required. There was no mention of AR15 ever. The judge brought the paper work to the county clerk who then called the gun shop. Gun shop told them it was perfectly legal and safe act compliant

Hmmmm. Maybe if you pin a 4" flash suppresor, add a pistol brace and vertical foregrip you might just have the answer. A non-pistol, non-rifle, non-firearm, non-AOW, sweet mag-swappin' NY legal AR!

Too bad. If they called me i would have said a "regular" auto loading pistol.
Try again with me or get a lawyer. You should be able to add any legal gun to your permit.

The judge requested a call to the ATF. The ATF agents travel in their territory. I happened to be at the LGS when the ATF agent arrived

What's funny is the ATF was called. ATF has no control over New York State law. They don't even interpret it. They were the wrong entity to call. But apparently in this situation it worked out
It was very painless. The ATF guy was great. He looked at the lower and I showed him I had the FC hook, Prince 50 and JB weld. He agreed that it was a fixed mag and after reviewing the safe act he said it was not an assault weapon and thus the regulations governing an assault weapon did not apply. At first he was concerned about the 50 oz weight and the handguard but after reading the stipulations in regards to a REMOVABLE mag he said this would not be restricted by those stipulations as it was a fixed mag,
