This charging handle / bolt (?) thingy was in a box-'o-stuff I got.
Does anyone know what rifle it belongs to?
No markings other than a serial number ( perhaps).

EZ Mode. Got all excited to answer the question. Missed the boat. Anyone who owns an SKS has had their bolt out at some point to clean the firing pin channel. The firing pin is conical, and can get stuck in the channel with enough crud or rust, causing slam fires, sometimes with a whole mag dump.

I do not know the reference but know the item in the photo is neither of them. Sounds like something you would hear in South Park or The Simpsons or The Big Bang Theory or maybe even from Coneheads. Yes, that seems to have a vague ring to it. Is it something that is from Coneheads that Beldar mentioned?

Wait a minute, I think I was remembering "flarndip". I don't have a clue.

I'll give it up - it is for a Polish WZ-48 (aka: M48) 22 caliber, single shot, trainer.

I have never heard of it called a practice bolt as is done in that other forum, I've only heard it called a cleaning guide. Obviously mine needs a bit of the brass brush and some oil. Recently rediscovered it in my basement where the resident gnome hid it and it is a tad rusted.

That's no SKS bolt. What you got there is an experimental and highly classified stolen British mi6 design. It's an anti upward tilt side rotary d2-d26 m1a1 concealable nuclear micro bolt. Only rumors existed about it up until now, but to post pictures of it is not a very good idea. It's a good way to get agencies you've never heard of find you during 4:00am put a black bag over your head and send you down 1200 feet below the surface SOMEWHERE, where you are only to wake up again inside a dark room surrounded by mirrored blast proof glass with a speaker asking you questions, all while you're being injected robotically with sodium pentothal. Okay I'm done.
