Good luck with those food buckets. At the end of 30 days you'll be so physically ill from the level of sodium in the ingredients that you'd have been better off starving.

@Celt i do have a few of these as quick grab and goes, but I would not be looking forward to eating any of these types of kits long terms. Weekend of camping perhaps, but not for an extended period.

I have myself, wife and 4 kids to feed, so needing supplies for 6 of us is pricey. Its nice to afford tastey stuff, but quality calories is a bigger concern. Im going to start stuffing mylar bags again with pasta, beans, rice, and flour. Ill also buy some buckets like this.

Looking back at past examples may not be the best indicator of future events.
Yes there were times in the past where it looked like we were getting close to something bad. And the "big event" never happened and life continues mostly as normal.
I would look at it like this. If theses one thing I think based on looking at the past compared to now is we are certainly in a decline. Look at how things used to be and how they are now.
IMO the collapse is happening now, it's just that no one knows at what point will it increase in velocity and how bad it really get to where even all the normies realize something "has changed" and they start to get nervous.
Look how chaotic 2019-2021 have been. I would expect in 5 years from now things will be worse than today.
And none of this is remotely talking about the global food supply breaking down, crazy weather or climate events, new global conflicts, attacks etc. I'm merely talking about our country's continual slow motion fracturing and collapse.
If there's one thing I keep using as a real world example to my wife with the past 2 years as an example is you want to be ahead of the curve. You don't want to be stuck in with the unwashed masses unprepared and panicking.

Went camping this week and my stomach balked at eating Back Packers Pantry. 
Ehhhh... Not really. Have enough for short term. If anything else above and beyond is needed I'll already have been on the move... And adapting as I go. Can't take a basement of supplies with ya, so what's the sense?
And those survival kits I would be mixing in and with other supplies. Pure survival kit would be at the very end of the zombie apocalypse when all other resources have been exhausted. And by then... Would it matter my sodium intake? As long as I had access to water? Lol...
Anyways... No, not really... Maybe some ammo here and there or some toy or two that might be good for the dark ages between event horizon and the new world! Lol

I've always thought after a certain time one would find oneself the victim of constant attack. Its obvious if you have food and other do not.
Unless you intentionally look ragged and lose some weight. Perhaps.
If one were to stock up, it would probably only need to be a years or so worth until you can get your bees, garden, and whatever other renewable resources up and running. I always thought if your plan was to bug in, a pond that's well stocked with pan fish would be excellent. Not high maintenance, but easy defense, and not as mobile. In other words no one if going to easily round up your fish and hurd them away.

I’m a bug in prepper with a remote camp as a fall back. One of my home preps was installing a second 40 gal hot water tank. It’s primary purpose is as a tempering tank as it raises the city water temp by 30F during the winter with no added energy. From there the water goes to the fired hot water tank.
It’s secondary purpose is to have an extra 40 gals of potable water on hand for a total of of 80 gals. I figure this is about 30 days of water for wifey and I. Food is important but you can live longer without it than without water. Electrical power may go down and with it urban water. That is except the Cuse as it is a gravity fed system from Skaneateles Lake 20 miles to the SW.

Wednesday my wife heard we would have a boil water order yesterday - municipal supply maintenance or something. I have neglected water storage since it has not stopped running once while we have been in this house. Last house we had a well and a bunch of water stored, with access to a generator if needed. I am looking to put at least a couple hundred gallon storage in the basement now and maybe a few rain barrels. I can get some clean IBC totes from work, but they won't fit down the basement stairs.
