Trying to do a transfer and the gentleman failed his background check. He said he never had any trouble before purchasing a gun and is going to appeal it. Any idea how long this process could take?

He got delayed and after a few days of waiting he was denied. He said he was going to appeal the background check denial which might take a few weeks. I dont mind waiting but if it takes more then a month and comes back denied again I'm not going to be happy. I was wondering if someone had a similar situation happen and how long it took.

he will be on the phone with ATF for prolly a yr getting it fixed .. if he does get it fixed he needs get a PIN from the ATF and use that ( i think its called ) ..

I'd walk and find a new buyer. It's nice of you to want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it would seem they have some work to do to get things squared up. You shouldn't have to put your sale on hold for that or otherwise be involved.

Yep, give up on the guy at this point. You could end up waiting weeks or months or never. Waste of your time. This is his problem now. The fact he doesn't even know why he was denied is a red flag as well.

I had an FFL tell me that applying for a UPIN has a 5 year wait now for a call back. Don’t know the guy that well so he may be full of shit. I’d find another buyer.

You don’t know this guy from the next. He could be the nicest guy or could be a twenty time felon. Wait if you want but I’ve never known anyone who got delayed and with the amount t of background checks I doubt it will be fast.

I was wrongly denied in 2015 and it took me almost 3 years to get my rights back.
After almost 3 years I wrote to president Trump and won my appeal within 5 days. Ive told the whole story here before.....search for it.
The denial appeal process is simple enough but your case is put on a pile so you just wait. If you go to the NICS appeal page at the FBI it will say what date they are processing. Last I looked it was around 2 years.
So, you have to wait 2 years for a human to even look at your appeal.
Dead serious, I went through it all.
The UPIN number came a couple months later.
When you send in your appeal you need to send a set of fingerprints for the UPIN to be processed.
Now my NICS comes back in 5 mins or less.
Not a fun process. And a lawyer cannot help. I found out the hard way.

Five days later or so I got my possitive appeal.
Then the aide called back and asked if everything worked out.
He then gave me his phone number incase I had any other isdues.
They took it pretty serious.
I was told that over 70% of denials are false denials but you still need to wait.
I dont kniw if Trump will help now. I had waited 2 years and 10 months. I think that was the reason for the quick help.
The aide said it was ridiculous.

Trump didnt have anything to do with it bur his aide was great......Adam.....or maybe Ben was his name.
Ill look for the emails.
He gave me his extention number to get ahold of him for anything else.....gun related or not.
Neat expierience.
