Then buy any stripped lower shipped to your FFL and pick it up.
Then buy the stock, buffer system, and lower kit shipped to your door all from the same website.

The Thordsen is meh. It feels a lot like a traditional rifle stock. If you go that route, get an ambidextrous safety. It's a pain in the ass to engage.
There's no actual legal precedent declaring the Thordsen legal, but they've been on shelves at dealers in NY for years now, so I really don't think there's much to worry about as far as tripping over unSAFE.

I use a Thordsen. My only beef is the safety. You can disengage it from safe to fire with no problem but you have to either use your other hand to put it back to safe or release your grip with the shooting hand and pivot it to be able to reach the safety and put it back to safe.
That is easily fixed with an ambidextrous safety like others have said. I personally just deal with the regular safety. Turning it to fire is all I really care about and I can do that one handed no problem.
As far as comfort goes, it's no different than any standard traditional rifle. It looks funky but it works as the rifle was intended to work. I would not hesitate talking it into battle if I had to. No way would I take a fixed magazine into battle.
As far as legalities go, it's a stock and not a grip. That can easily be argued compared to what magazine is considered fixed.

As for "going into battle", is that on your horizon ?
If I felt that way, I'd bury my AUG, 10 filled 40 rounders (black tips) and a few thou more loose.
Were that I had no AUG, I'd have a spare AR lower and lotsa loaded magazines.
Easy enough to swap my full featured upper to it, snap on the can and await ISIS.
Other than that 10 rounds is sufficient (my M-1 only hold 8)

I see it differently. My rifle has the same capability and lethality as when it had features. Not so if I fixed the magazine.
One grip screw turns it back to normal.
