i have enough quality parts to assemble an AR rifle for Precision Rifle Series matches inn.223/5.56 and in doing so have difficulty justifying the expense of buying another rifle.
being from the peoples republic, i need to approach the gas gun project differently, meaning that i would use a bolt action upper so i could keep the pistol grip and adjustable rear stock. all i would need to acquire is a bolt action upper, free floating handguard, and the correct barrel nut to attach it and i'm off to the races.
i don't plan on shooting many of these matches, but i don't want to put together gear that once assembles is worthless in terms of being semi-competitive.
So...if you were me, do you build it or buy a bolt gun.
