As others said, it's still legal to have ammo shipped to you in NYS (NYC has different rules), but I've found the majority of online retailers still refuse to ship to NY.
Do some searching here and you might find links to places that ship, if they have any..

Not banned. But they are afraid of harassment from FUAC's goon squad.
They can't charge the shop with anything, but they can bankrupt them with harassing lawsuits.
It's criminal extortion, but they get away with it.
IMHO FUAC and anyone who assisted in one of those schemes should be prosecuted, but it'll never happen.
At this point the whole NYS government should probably be declared a criminal enterprise.

Add 80% lowers to this as well. I’ve heard they sent letters to anyone with the word assault riffle on their page. I know they sent a cease and desist order to many of them. Again no law backing this up.
Maybe as a firearm owner it would behove you (OP) to KNOW the laws of the land, rather than being left wondering what, why, when, where, how and then going online to seek information from a source you're not entirely sure of how reliable it might be (any intent source)...

Ammo sales were never barred, ever! So not too sure what that's about, only requirement is that when the law, as written and signed, is implemented fully, ammo sales must be transfered via FFL. That's it! Nothing says anything about being barred or restricted, other than by those who otherwise would illegally possess... Anyways...
Yeah, I'm harsh, but I stand by my conviction that all firearm owners have a responsibility to KNOW the laws which will ultimately effect them at some point, lol, especially in NY!
That said, if you find ammo available, there are vendors who ship to NY knowing the NYSafe Act has not been fully implemented yet at this time (years later)...

Was browsing the web and came across some Hornady Match grade 223/5.56 over at Classic Arms. Tried to buy 200 rounds but got their alert saying a no-go. they still will not sell to NY without an FFL. everything I've bought lately through dealers on G-broker has shipped with zero issue.

They are on my shit list. They jacked up prices insanely fast and higher than many others did during the pandemic. I’d be hard pressed to give them a dime of mine. They would have to be significantly cheaper.
Best part is my FIL swears by them because he got some super cheap 6.8SPC from them. So whenever I find cheap 6.8 and say we should split this he keeps bringing up well I’m not buying it until I get it for $0.65/round like I did from outdoor limited. So I asked how did that happen? Well I spent X amount of money and got free shipping, signed up for their one-time 10% off and o had a gift certificate for $50. I said are you serious? Yep. Then you didn’t pay that price. He’s nuts.

It never was banned, but NY politicians got what they wanted. They made people and some retailers believe it was illegal even when it wasnt. In doing so they hurt the gun business, drove up ammo prices and discouraged shooters from training, practicing, teaching others, etc..

They also used the NYAG office to threaten TargetSports and some others with multiple suits to prohibit on-line ammo sales directly to a NY consumer which were all dropped when TargetSports, who did not have the business profile to mandate sales tax collection for NY, to do the tax collection bidding for the emperor of the empire state.

I had some good suppliers, especially one for reloads that was great range ammo, and they ran away with their tail between their legs. Even when the law, as passed, is pretty clear to read and understand for all! That database must first be functional and the NYSP have duly notified all, etc., etc, blah blah blah...
Anyways, I still obtain my ammo from out of state, if for any reason, just simply not to feed the trolls up in Albany and reward them for bad behavior (Safe Act)! Fuck them...
