Are We Getting Ads?

And maybe put it up for a discussion as to what you wanna use the funds for once the additions are paid for, or if it's only for that. "Turn the button on" until the site hits a predetermined goal/level you guys need to keep paying for shit, and when that is hit, turn it off. When you pay for something and it drops below the goal again, turn it back on. That way, the funds are only used for the site, and we're not always thinking we need to donate. However, if we decide that we want monthly giveaways (pens from @NirvanaFan or parts from @Bullet Guy), then keep it up all the time. We can have all sorts of shit, we're creative, we can come up with some ideas on what to do w/ the surplus.

I've contributed to a few sites where I frequented and got valuable information from. I'd be glad to do that here also.

Ads are OK as long as they don't get too pervasive and annoying, and I like having the vendor section (much more so than random click ads).

I think there is something fishy why it takes so long to resolve.
It is not a problem on my side I can assure you that.

So we went from doing 80 in the highway with good weather and sunny skies to doing 10mph with black ice all over. lol

IMO when something is introduced it would be nice to ask volunteers for testing at specific hours with different
browsers and OS.

This is not true (on Chrome, FireFox and IE), the ad loads as the page loads and it is served from Amazon's AWS infrastructure, one of the fastest networks in the world. I did plenty of testing, used all of my common sense and many different browsers to test the shit out of it. There was literally no difference in the speed before and after the introduction of the 1 ad on the bottom of the screen, so I'm at a loss as to why you are having these issues. The simplest solution I would say is to install an ad-blocker. Also, the ad does not show up every time the page loads either.

It's that slow? I haven't noticed a bit of slowdown from my home connection (30mb down) or work (100mb down).

No slowdown here for me either, and I'm posting from my phone. Chrome on Android, 70mbps down, page loaded right up. Ad too.

Amazon are also very sloppy at several things that run in AWS. This is a known source of grieve for people who work in the infrastructure even with dedicated in memory server cluster or hybrid cloud that are much faster than average multitenent cloud services. I dont think the issue has anything to do with the infrastructure in either end.
Ad blockers are great but I dont want more garbage installed. What they block on one side, they harvest on the other from activity like antivirus and everybody else.

Now that you mention it, I have noticed the side bars and all the stuff on the right are taking longer to refresh, and I noticed this address while it was reloading. Just happened on my work pc. Usually, site loads right up/refreshes quickly.

No disrespect at all, likewise to you.....I know how frustrating things like this are and I want to help you out. Yes, I would love for you to test it, please. I can't replicate any issues at all but that's not to say other people aren't having any. I had to code a piece of javascript to detect the browser width because Amazon's ad service doesn't support responsive ads yet, so perhaps it's that. Shoot me a PM and let's troubleshoot it together (if you don't mind). I can kill the ads / javascript, you test page loads, etc. Thanks again.

I think when rolling ad service hits they look for specific settings and cookies so in incognito mode they might lag.
I don't think they would say they will not support it but definitively can create problems for users.
Google will always look for their tracking cookie to associate all activity.
But check your javascript.

Perhaps this will help. Same page from different browsers and different modes at the same time yield different results.
See differences at the bottom of the page. The slowest ones are in incognito mode and the Chrome in incognito mode
doesn't return control for a few seconds for each page. Same page, same thread...
