Banning firearms in an apartment complex

So I was having a 2A related discussion with a friend of mine who lives in downtown Syracuse and he told me that his building has some sort of rule with the homeowners association or something that bans residents from owning firearms. Granted this is not an apartment he is leasing, but one that he OWNS. Hearing this made absolutely no sense to me and I pretty sure he has his facts wrong. However, I was just curious if anyone knows whether or not something like this is legally possible.

Like I know that a totalitarian land lord could technically put something in contract that could prevent you from being able to keep firearms at the threat of being evicted if you do not comply.........but on land/property that is owned by you? That simply cannot be.

Well first off I'd tell the homeowners association to go fuck themselves and then hire a lawyer. Again I think this is illegal.

Here we go! Does he own the parking lot? Does he own the sidewalk from the parking lot? Does he own the stairs to his apartment? Does he own the hallway?

I live in a condo complex. I own the inside of my 4 walls. I also own an equal piece of all the things you just mentioned with everyone else.

Yes he owns it but still has too jump through hoops that HOA decides to enforce! I know of one family that couldn't park there pick-up truck outside in drive way HOA required to be parked in garage Fuck that !

Um, I can imagine how easy it would be to just ignore that shit completely and say you keep your guns at a family members place (worse case scenario) or something IF the owner knew you were a gun owner. Most importantly, It wouldn't even matter, it's like owning anything else that's small and "illegal" set aside or in your safe or wherever, too easy to get out of immediate site to ever be an issue that can be enforced.

And your town may have a ordinance with something else similar like not being allowed to shoot in your back yard or forcing you to put up a fence. If that bothers you, you can move just like I would move if there was an ordinance in my association.
