Wow, holy shit, I thought I was the only one! I also have 11 land mines strategically positioned from the back door to the mud room in front..you really don't ever know. Now that the kids are old enough, I don't have to worry as much about them stepping on them..they've learned were to walk over the years
If I were in a war zone or worked as a drug dealer then I'd understand living in a paranoid, constantly armed state... if I had restraining orders against people and crazy gangs stalking me then sure, understandable... but for most people they simply aren't getting random home invasions. How many have happened in your area? Do you live on the South Side of Chicago in a Housing Project?
You could buy a better door.
You could have a dog - canine early warning system.
And you could use some of the gun money to move to a safer location.
If I had to live in fear of getting attacked while I'm on the shitter then the problem isn't whether I can grab a gun soon enough... it's that I'm getting attacked in first place. Gotta change that situation and the simplest thing to do is move. Far away!
I have several HD guns and have trained and run scenarios but the number one things for me are prevention and avoidance.

I don't know about that. There have been numerous random home invasions in the last two years quite close to where I live. If I remember correctly, two of them right in Orchard Park, a place where nobody would consider a bad area by any means. Actually, if you think of quaint, perfect little towns, OP is it. With the recent uptick in heroin related crime, even kids from "good" and affluent families and areas are resorting to this type of crime. Not gonna hedge my bets that my house will be one that's overlooked just by chance. I'll be ready. Paranoid or not.

I'd like to know about these home invasions in "nice" areas. Were their doors locked? Were they Columbians related to cartel members? There's usually a backstory our lovely journalists miss.

It's all opinions. My cousin in Florida carries 2 guns. One on the hip and another on the ankle plus more than 2 mags per gun.
That makes him feel comfortable. I'm good with just one.

One more member that is blind to the world around them. I do not need to move to a nicer location. Even the best and nicest areas have crime. Burglaries, in all areas are on the rise. Arrests for crimes against people have risen very steadily over the past few years. All that think people like me are paranoid, why do you even carry a gun? Different levels of paranoia? It's like that Fudd saying all you really need is a shotgun. Same FUDD mentality. And we all know who some of the FUDDS here are.

I live in a really good area, mostly spread out and what neighbors are near keep their eyes open for others even if they don't necessarily like each other. We still have break ins and the occasional attempted home invasion. The druggies think they have easy targets. If you don't carry all the time I don't see why there's an issue having guns hidden around your home. Has nothing to do with paranoia, it's about preparedness. My guns are locked up except for 2, my P99 is on me all the time and I have a rifle hidden. But the rifle is only out for 4 legged predators that frequent my yard. My wife used to ask why I always carry, she finally gave up when a neighbor down the road had an attempted home invasion.

In the world in which I live, bad things sometimes happen to good people. It may happen in public. It may happen at work. It may happen in the car. And yes, it may happen at home. We don't get to choose when, where, and how the fight is brought to us.
We all need to evaluate our own lives and determine what our risk levels are, our abilities (physical, mental, and financial) and subsequently, our levels of preparedness. I'm all for prevention and avoidance too. That should be Plan A for everyone. But what's Plan B?
I don't fault someone for keeping a gun in a ziplock bag the the tank of their shitter. If it's incorporated into their defense plan, why not? Maybe the bathroom is a rally point. Maybe it's a hard point and a place to barricade. Maybe it's a vulnerable point. It makes sense to some people to keep a firearm in the bathroom, and it may not make sense to others.
Preparedness and paranoid are not finite points on a spectrum. They are all relative.

Let me ask you. Do you keep YOUR doors locked when you're home? Some would say THAT'S paranoid. I would constantly be locking myself out of the house if I locked the doors when I was home, and I'm not prepared to do that. Besides, a locked door just keeps people honest, not out.

I keep my doors locked when I'm home. Sometimes I have a gun on me in the house, sometimes I don't. I also keep fresh batteries in the smoke detectors, and keep a few fire extinguishers around. Not worried, just as prepared as I think I might need to be.
