Anyone have any input on this AR? Thinking about purchasing it and fixing the mag with Mean Arms mag fix to make it compliant.

Yes, the FFL just has to make it NY compliant before transferring when it arrives. I am not buying directly from BCM, using a gun shop in GA.

Considering Colt doesn't make/sell ARs for the general public anymore the BCM would be a better deal I would bet and equal in Spec's ! You probably can find a Colt but I would bet the price will be jacked up !! BCM makes great guns so no issues there and Colt does also so buy what ya like and can get I say.

Yes you are correct, thanks for your opinion. I was originally going to buy a Ruger 556 state complaint model for much cheaper. I decided to go with a BCM since it has most of the specs I want, and if I bought the Ruger 556 I would whined up upgrading pretty much most of the rifle anyway and paying more in the long run for a entry lower quality rifle. Getting a decent deal on this rifle from a out of state gun store. Just haven’t seen many reviews so I would like some options.

BCM rifles are top tier rifles for sure! All Mil-Spec and proven many times over. Well worth the $$$. You will always get the argument that a cheaper AR is just as good,, but depending on your use/plans for this rifle why cheap out! Buy once cry once I say, because Quality never goes out of style, LOL

Exactly! I thought about it and it doesn't make sense and I would probably be kicking myself in the long run buying a cheap entry level AR dumping a ton of money into it saying to myself why I didn’t get the more quality AR. It’s pricey but I know I can trust BCM and I know what I am getting. Just looking for some opinions from people that own/ed it.

I would think that with the Mean Arms Mag Lock you would be good, it really will take some serious work getting that dam thing out of there, drills, punches, etc !! Its all a matter of the Trooper/Sherrif and worse case the Judge if you make it that far. I think the big thing with firearms issues is most times the person is doing other "stupid" stuff and the gun is in the car and that just gets tacked on. If your doing range/competition/general being a decent safe gun person your not gonna get hassled! Anyways enough rant about out stupid laws,LOL Once you put the mag lock-in I really like this method,, seems faster, easier than the Mean Arms setup. LOADERS Anyways keep us posted on how ya make out good luck and have fun rocking your new BCM !

I will take all the precautions necessary to try to avoid giving them a reason to give me a hard time. I think with the Means Arms mag lock once installed you would have to destroy the lock to remove it, using power tools so I feel the most confident using their product.

This your first AR? I would think hard if you want to do that to it, if you've never shot fixed mag before. Putting a Thordsen on and pinning and welding a good thread cap would give you a featureless and much more usable rifle, and you could reverse it if you moved out of state (and add some kind of maglock later if you wanted), and you can swap the barrel if you want to get your threads back.

Fixed mags blow. Our laws blow. I suppose in Westchester you may have to more reason to worry about what the nebulous bounds of compliance are than real upstate. You ought to be able to lock your mag popping out the spring and replacing the button with a nut. Or using a DD's ranch lock. I can't see putting that MA lock on a BCM rifle.

Really why not buy a BCM upper and then build the lower of your liking yourself? Time to do that is now, our gov wants to make that a felony this year.

By any account I have ever read or heard BCM makes an excellent product and I don't doubt that.
However it is my opinion that they are a little overhyped and I prefer a pinned gas blocked to one that is set in place with a set screw which is BCM's practice. Many other people would take umbrage with that but that is my preference.

As for the question of fixing magazines for compliance, I am strongly against that. I am very much a form follows function sort of guy and if I were to buy or assemble a compliant build I would use a Thordesn stock or, more likely, buy an FightLite SCR lower. You could then attach the BCM upper of your choice to the SCR lower.
I strongly think that the SCR is the best compliant option. It has good function and also form.


You can just get the SCR lowers separately now.
