Depending of caliber, I'd go with a Springfield Armory XD.

Had an XD Service in .45 ACP w/4" barrel for years. Had to sell it.

Most dependable weapon I've ever owned. Put 1000's of reloads through it during training with only 2 stoppages, both failure to extract.

Wasn't the gun, it was one brand of shitty brass that I missed during culling brass.

Still have my XD 40. Always liked it.

But then you're looking at near or above $4K.

My goal upon freeing myself from this gulag is to acquire a Nighthawk 1911, a Nighthawk Hi-Power, and one of those very fancy Korth revolvers they carry. Possible kidney sale pending, minimal alcohol exposure, zero illicit pharmaceutical exposure, A+ blood type, manufacture date 1977.

Nothing but good reviews on the Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy. A bit over what you want to spend but you can put a dot on it and seems like a good investment.​

Cabot is heavily on my radar because they make a left handed 1911. I’m a lefty, and I want a matched pair of 1911’s, one lefty for the left and one righty for the right. Dual shoulder holster rig of course.

I’ve not seen them do a HiPower though…

No high power that I’m aware of either but some sweet 1911’s. I want the matched pair as well.

I haven't fired a 1911 since my government Remington Rand. Shot fantastic but cost me a ton to make it shoot that way.
Decided I'm holding off buying another till I'm out of this shithole.

Ruger makes a compact 1911 in 9mm that looks pretty nice. It’s under a grand. They may have it in 45 as well.

My FIL has one of these and loves it. He has the cheaper model and much preferred it over his Colt.

Eventually I planned to pick up a Ruger SR1911 in 9mm to go along with my SR1911s in .45 ACP and 10mm, but the 1911 prices have skyrocketed over the years.... it's still on my list but other purchases are a priority.
