I want to purchase my first 1911 and don’t want to spend the $$$$ on a Colt or Dan Wesson. What is a solid entry level 1911 under $1000.

That is a tough one. There are a lot of manufacturers out there putting out good products.
if you can find a Bul Armory 1911 it will be around that price. They are great guns.
Springfield armory and Ruger will be close to 1K and are also great guns.
Rock Island Armory will be around 500-800, depending on the model and are also great guns.
There are some other foreign manufacturers on the lower end of the price scale which I have no experience with so I cannot comment on them.
After my experience with Taurus handguns in the 90s. I don’t even look at them nor would I let my family members buy one.
I have a boatload of 1911s (from almost all the manufacturers) and quite a few I made myself. It is one of my favorite gum models. I’m afraid You are going to have to do a lot of research to find one you like.

I'll second the BUL; excellent, made in Israel.
Tisas (made in Turkey) has an excellent 1911 for an entry level sub $500. price and some racier versions closer to $750.
1911's have been made a long time by lots of companies and countries; I've had high end Colt's that weren't worth a damn and cheap one that never failed as well as the inverse; fortunately, problems can be diagnosed and repaired fairy easily.
Not sure what rugers are going for but they are great.

Do you have one from Oriskany Arms? If yes, what are your thoughts? Thinking of ordering one some day, I like the locally manufactured "vibe" if you will since they are so close to where I live. Spoke with a salesman there once & he offered that I could go there and tour the place, and if I ever order a gun I can visit to watch it being manufactured. That was pre-pandemic, so not sure if that holds true these days.

Grab a gun as a price cross reference (those above currently out of stock.) Grab a gun on the high price side. I do like my Springfield 1911's. You can use 8 round mags in the 1911's above no problem.
If I had $1k to spend I'd go for the SIG P220.

Lots of choices for that amount. Springfield RO is a lot of target gun for your money and leaves money for more upgrades and additions. You may also find some better 1911s used at that price...pic has top-to-bottom: Remington R1 Enhanced (used is probably around $1K), Springfield V-16 (16 ports) Longslide I got used for less than $1K and a Range Officer with some custom parts (barrel, trigger, a few other things).

I’m leaning towards the Bul Armorry. Between the commander in 9mm 4.25 barrel or the government 5” barrel

the last Delta Elte I bought looks just like that except for the grips and front sight: works outstandingly well irrespective the ammunition. (10mm can be finicky)
I think you should get that Colt personally.

Be careful of this rabbit hole. I bought a Ruger SR1911 and love it. One of my favorite guns to shoot. This lead to three more 1911s. Love them all. Personally I prefer series 70 to series 80.

It is a rabbit hole and if I could I’d buy all of them. But I think I am going with the Colt. From what I researched they retain their value and are the gold standard in 1911’s. The Springer looks like a gorgeous gun. And the Bul draws me in all the upgrades. The problem is nothing is in stock. And everything is above msrp. I’ll let you guys know where I’m headed. Once I decide I have to wait God knows how long before stupid Westchetser approved my amendment. I’m already waiting 3 months for my amendment on my full carry. I suppose I can’t do anything until I get my permit back.

I’d do the 9mm commander, but that’s just me. Now that CZ bought Colt I’d consider one since the more recent colts are over rated IMO and the company has gone bankrupt so many times it’s not even funny. CZ makes nice stuff and I suspect there quality is now back to what it should be.
Also if you search the forum Dsdmatt builds some gorgeous 1911’s so if he says Bul is good then they are good. If you’re willing to spend a bit more STI makes some sweet guns.

After much thought and consideration I have gone with the Springfield Garrison in 9mm blued. When racking it, it was smooth as butter and tight. The blue was done really nicely on this model. It was a high quality model. Chose 9mm due to cost. I have thousands of rounds of 9mm and do not feel going for the extra cash on ammo. I also saw and held the Colt Competition. Also a very nice gun. But $1000 out the store and it was in stainless. Prefer the blued over stainless steel. The Garrison offered the most bang for the buck. Got it $700 online. $740 with transfer fee. Now I have to wait for weeks before I can actually handle it. But at least I’ll have a new toy in January!
